Important Importables: Fate/stay night and its offshoots
With visual novels suddenly starting to appear more often outside of Japan and Aksys’ latest risk undertaking the translation and localization of Fate/Extra, it seems like a good time to look at one of the best known and most popular visual novels out there, Type-Moon’s Fate/stay night. This first commercial already famous doujin creators of Tsukihime managed to be such a success, despite its original release as an adult bishojo game, that it ended up crossing over and becoming an all-ages hit, as well as inspiring a manga, anime, light novels and additional games….
New York Comic Con 2011: Cosplay photo gallery
No convention would be complete without its fair share of cosplayers and the 2011 New York Comic Con was no exception.
There were characters ranging from popular superheroes, video game characters, anime heroes, and some sci-fi characters.
There was also a lot of Adventure Time, although the photos I took of those characters didn’t turn out too well.
Here’s a collection of the best cosplay photos I was able to take in between waiting in line for panels, panels and waiting in line for video game demos.
Important Importables: Type-Moon
Type-Moon is really pretty inspiring. The company started small, with two devoted people who loved what they were doing and wanted to share it with others. That dream lead to the indie developers becoming a major commercial force, creating products and original properties that inspired all kinds of sequels and offshoots. While the original games were adult-only products, most of the follow ups are appropriate for all audiences. In fact, two of the games inspired by its popular Fate/ series, Fate/unlimited codes and Fate/Extra, are available in English on North American PSPs…
Important Importables: 5pb
Last week, when Important Importables talked about visual novels you could get for your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, the publisher 5pb came up quite often. That’s because it’s quite well known for a number of its VN series, some of which are starting to find fame outside Japan despite never being released in English. Not to mention, Important Importables reviewed a 5pb PSP game a while back. It seemed like a good time to look into what that particular company is about. Especially since they might not be around for much longer. Cue the ominous music…
Japan Import: Suikoden series returns as a dating sim
There’s some bad news if you’ve been waiting for a new Suikoden game. Konami and Irem have just announced one, but it isn’t the Suikoden you’ve been waiting for. Instead of being an RPG where you battle bad guys and collect 108 characters to aid you in your fight, it’s a dating sim called Doki Doki Suikoden. Better yet, a PSP dating sim inspired by an April Fool’s prank from 2001…
TGS 2010: Microsoft’s booth will have Xbox 360, Xbox Live and Kinect games
The 2010 Tokyo Game Show is this weekend and Microsoft is ready to let everyone know what to expect from them. The company’s opened it’s TGS website and revealed pretty much every game it’ll have on display at it’s booth. As you can guess, there are lots of Kinect titles. There are also a lot of games from third party publishers to show what Xbox 360 owners can expect to see in 2010 and 2011.
Here’s Microsoft’s full booth lineup. All 48 games are for the Xbox 360, of course, and I’ll indicate which ones are Kinect-exclusive and Xbox Live Arcade games…
TGS 2010: Namco Bandai announces its 22 game lineup
Namco Bandai is going for both quality and quantity with its game lineup for the 2010 Tokyo Game Show. The company is attending, of course, and has plenty planned for attendees September 16-19, 2010. You can play games, watch trailers for games being developed and pick up goods and accessories with Namco Bandai games on them. (You have to pay for the stuff though!)
First, here are the 28 games TGS 2010 attendees can see at Namco Bandai’s booth…
Japan Import: NIS working on Criminal Girls girl-punishing RPG
NIS and Image Epoch, creators of Arc Rise Fantasia and Luminous Arc are working on a new RPG together. An RPG that’s full of fan service and guaranteed to appeal to a niche segment of society. It’s called Criminal Girls and it’s a PSP RPG that deals with going through dungeon trials and punishment of scantily clad, sinful girls…
Japan Import: Dream Club hostess bar moves to the PSP
You can now visit a hostess club where ever you go, no matter where you live. D3 Publisher is going to be bringing the Xbox 360 game Dream Club to the PSP as Dream Club Portable in Fall 2010. This is great news, as now it’s going to be on a region-free platform.
Dream Club Portable is a game where you frequent a hostess club to visit women there…
