Bungie MMO announcement was all a joke
One of the biggest mysteries in the videogame industry (and there are many) is what Bungie’s next project is. Bungie isn’t going to make Halo games anymore, and has signed on with Activision Blizzard for the next decade. Earlier rumors stated Bungie’s next project was a massively multiplayer online game. The latest piece of information, that was supposedly leaked by a released contract worker, said the game was code-named Destiny. At GDC this week, a slide from a Bungie presentation seemed to have confirmed this. Sorry guys, it was a joke.
GDC 2011: Don’t be afraid to shoot in Dream Trigger 3D
D3 Publisher had a 3DS game to show off at the 2011 Game Developer’s Conference this year. It’s the launch window, shooter Dream Trigger 3D. A name like that just screams shoot’em up and bullet hell. Hope you’re prepared to dodge and rapidly tap that trigger button…
Fruit Ninja downloaded 20 million times, Facebook game on the way
Fruit Ninja is one of those games that you always see whenever you look in the games section of the App Store. It’s one of those games that’s incredibly simple and cheap, but never seems to get old. Fruit Ninja is the same game every time, but it’s also a different experience each time. People love that simplicity these days, and they speak with their dollars. Fruit Ninja has been downloaded 20 million times on iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7. In terms of purchases, the iOS version has been purchased 6 million times.
OnLive working on European payment structures
We’ve been going on about OnLive for several months now. It’s hard to believe the service isn’t active in Europe yet. OnLive is planning to go live in Europe sometime this year, but it has a pretty big challenge to overcome by then. OnLive has to figure out how people are going to pay for access. Europe and the United States tend to do things differently. At GDC this year, Chris Donahue, the head of developer and publisher relations, told GamesIndustry payments have to go beyond credit and debit cards.
Achievements and more coming to OnLive this year
If OnLive’s strategy is to become an alternative game console, it has to have features that are standard on traditional consoles. During the Game Developer’s Conference, OnLive’s vice president of engineering Joe Bentley, announced achievements are coming to OnLive this year. More new features will be added as well.
GDC 2011: Sega reveals its initial 3DS Game Gear classics lineup

Double Fine enters the trenches for its next downloadable game
Double Fine didn’t waste any time revealing its fourth game that was conceived during a two week period of brainstorming. At the Game Developers Conference, Double Fine CEO Tim Schafer revealed Trenched. Trenched is an Xbox Live Arcade game that is nothing like Double Fine’s previous three games. It’s likely Trenched will be exclusive to Xbox 360 because it is being published by Microsoft Game Studios.
GDC 2011: Homefront balloon stunt loses air quickly
We’ve all heard of game companies conjuring dumb publicity stunts to promote a new game. Try this one for size. What if a company released 10,000 balloons into the bay of a city well-known for being extremely environmentally conscious? That’s exactly what THQ did during this week’s GDC.
GDC 2011: Your NGP might need a 2gb or 4gb NVG
I bet you were hoping that Sony would finally wise up and just use something like an SD card or microSD card for the NGP, but no. It’s already been confirmed that the NVG is the way to go for the NGP. If you happened to be at the 2011 Game Developers Conference, then you got to hear first hand a bit more about Sony’s latest portable’s memory card.
Sony is going to have two varieties of NVG card at launch, with the only difference between the two being storage size…
