LEGO Universe closing its virtual plastic doors January 2012
LEGO today sent out an email to media explaining that, despite relatively good reviews and 2 million players, the company has not been able to make enough money to sustain its MMOG, LEGO Universe.
The company also announced that, as a result, it will be letting 115 employees go.
From the press release it sounds as if the company is instead focusing efforts on other games. LEGO Universe launched Fall 2010 with a limited trial followed by a paid monthly subscription required to play. It recently switched to a freemium model, allowing anyone to play for free but with additional items and extended content costing real money.

GameStop apologizes for Deus Ex fiasco with $50 gift cards
GameStop was the subject of controversy this week when it was revealed that employees were told to open new PC copies of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and remove the OnLive promotional insert that dwelled inside. GameStop then pulled the game from shelves and said it was shipping all copies back to Square Enix. To make up for that unpleasantness, GameStop is presenting a peace offering for those who purchased Human Revolution.

Clear your name in Bethesda’s Dishonored coming 2012
Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Studios are talking up Dishonored, an action/stealth title with an impressive pedigree. The game’s co-creators are Raphael Colantonio (lead designer on Arx Fatalis) and Harvey Smith (lead designer of Deus Ex).
The game’s star is Corvo, bodyguard to the empress of Dunwall. She gets murdered at the beginning of the game, and Corvo is blamed. Things go bad very fast as Corvo becomes a wanted man. Luckily for him, he’s an assassin who also has some serious magic powers.

Collectible miniatures game HeroClix gets online component
WizKids’ comic-based collectible miniatures game HeroClix uses little plastic men to represent titanic battles between superheroes. Characters available range from comic legends such as Captain America and Superman to to the heroes of Delta Squad from Gears of War. Now you’ll be able to play even at times when you can’t get your local group together. WizKids has announced HeroClix Online. The game will present a 3D virtual tabletop and support tournaments for up to 64 players. Winning players will get prizes including special figures.
