MSNBC, TMZ and iHeartRadio apps now available on Xbox Live

Microsoft released some new apps for Xbox Live today. If you head over to the Apps Marketplace in the United States, you’ll see video apps for TMZ, YouTube, Verizon FiOS TV and MSNBC. There is also an app for iHeartRadio if you’re more inclined to listen to music rather than watch videos. Apps for other countries have been released as well.

Xbox Live dashboard update won’t launch with key video applications

The shiny new Xbox 360 dashboard update is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, December 6. Besides sporting a brand new look designed in Microsoft’s Metro style, the update is also going to transform Xbox Live into a more capable video hub. Several video partners are going to provide content for Xbox Live, but several of their video applications won’t be around when the update goes live.

Xbox 360 becomes a Verizon FiOS cable box next month

On December 6, the Xbox Live dashboard update will be pushed to all Xbox Live members. Along with the new look will come new video services from a wide variety of content providers. Verizon is one of the companies that partnered with Microsoft to bring certain features from its FiOS TV service to the console. Today, Verizon outlined what Xbox 360 owners will be able to do once Verizon FiOS becomes their internet and television provider.

Travis Rice becomes first real-world snowboarder to appear in SSX

Rising star Travis Rice, featured in the snowboarding film The Art of Flight, is known for playing fast and loose with the law of gravity. EA decided he would be a perfect addition to the revamp of its SSX snowboarding series. Rice will be the first real snowboarder to appear in the game, alongside returning characters such as Mac and Kaori. EA calls Rice a real-life superhero, and believes he’s an ideal spokesman for a game that features nine of the world’s deadliest descents.

Nintendo teams up with Robin and Zelda Williams for another commercial

Back when Robin Williams decided to name his daughter Zelda in honor of one of his favorite video game series, I bet he never thought he’d also be making himself and her shoe-ins for Nintendo spokespeople. But, he did. First, the father daughter duo was showing up in the ads for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. They’re back again, only this time they’re promoting The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
