Get yer slappin’ hand ready to fund more Geek Fight
Independent card game developer Diving Dragon Games is looking for a little monetary love to print its next two sets and reprint its Beta Edition set.
Magic: The Gathering Dark Ascension released
It’s really amazing how Magic: The Gathering (M:TG) just keeps chugging along, releasing more and more and more cards without ever getting old. There was a time when Wizards of the Coast (WotC) bragged that M:TG had more than 1,000 cards you could use (and I had most of them). Now it’s closer to 10,000, and I can’t even recognize the majority of them by name.
The Dept. Heaven saga continues with Gungnir in 2012
Atlus’ trolling of fans is now over. The result is half of the people who were following along are pleased, and the other half are heartbroken. When Atlus started this game of trolling its fans with hints at its next downloadable game, people quickly narrowed it down to two options. One was Growlanser IV for the PSP, a series that hasn’t been seen in North America for years, and the other was Gungnir for the PSP, the fourth game in the Dept. Heaven series that also includes Riviera, Yggdra Union and Knights in the Nightmare. While many had their hopes up that perhaps both games would be released, the news broke today that the mystery title is, in fact, Gungnir and we’ll see it on June 12, 2012…
Gamertell 2011 Tabletop Holiday Gift Guide
Buying a computer game as a surprise for someone else is a snap: Find something with top reviews, plunk down $50 and you’re set.
Granted, “find something good and give it” works in theory but, when it comes to buying for tabletop gamers, there’s a hidden risk: You might have to actually play the game.
This year’s lineup focuses on stuff that you can be comfortable giving, and you stand a real chance of having fun even if you normally want nothing to do with funny dice games:
Fullmetal Battle brings Fullmetal Alchemist card battles to iOS
Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the many anime series to really resonate with fans worldwide. It’s built a large audience among both men and women, and I’m sure they’ll all be pleased to know there’s a way to take a bit of the series with you whenever you leave the house. That is, if you don’t mind free-to-play collectible card games. That’s when Fullmetal Battle appears.
In Fullmetal Battle, players choose three alchemists to act as their armies and use different cards to battle against AI or human opponents…
Hearts of Iron online collectible card game invades browsers
On October 3, 2011, the Hearts of Iron The Card Game collectible card game (CCG) officially went live online, to the joy, presumably, of serious wargame fans everywhere. The card game is loosely based on the Hearts of Iron series of grand strategy PC games that simulate World War II (WW2) in exceptional detail.
Pokemon card game goes online
There have been dozens, if not hundreds of collectible card games (CCGs), but none have come close to Magic: The Gathering (M:TG). A long running distant second has been the Pokemon Trading Card game, which is more popular with the younger, 10 and under, crowd. M:TG has had a successful online version for years, so it was only a matter of time before Pokemon was also playable via the internet. That time has come.
Sega invites iOS device owners to a Samurai BloodShow
I know sometimes it seems like developers and publishers are releasing iOS games every day, but sometimes a major developer surprises us with something that looks pretty cool. Samurai BloodShow is one of those games. I know, the name makes it seem like some gore-fest where you have samurais hack and slash at each other, but it’s not like that. It’s a strategy game where you use trading cards to unleash samurai forces and it’s graphics mimick the Japanese emakimono (picture scroll) and ukiyo (woodblock print) art style….
Important Importables: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
You know how you sometimes come across a game, tv show, book, etc that’s just so good you have to share it? Think of that as the reason why today’s Important Importables is all about Puella Magi Madoka Magica, the magical girl and horror anime series from Gen Urobuchi, Shaft animation studio and Aniplex. The series originally ran in Japan from January – April, 2011, with Aniplex planning a US release on DVDs sometime in the near future.
Ready to make a contract and learn more about the anime, where it all started, and the other media the series has inspired…
Bethesda Softworks suing Mojang over Scrolls
Bethesda Softworks is going after Mojang. To be specific, it’s suing Mojang over an indie game that doesn’t even exist yet. Prepare yourself, because things are about to get just a little ridiculous.
Apparently, Bethesda thinks Mojang’s Scrolls is too similar to The Elder Scrolls. Not because Scrolls, which is going to be a video game with card game, board game and stategic game elements, is going to have a storyline similar to or gameplay identical to The Elder Scrolls series. No, it’s all because of the word “scrolls…”
