NaturalMotion’s Backbreaker: Vengeance gets June 29 release date

Gamertell previously told you about Backbreaker Vengeance, the arcade return of NaturalMotion’s football franchise. It’s slated for a June 29, 2011, release on Xbox Live Arcade with a PlayStation Network version coming at a later date for PAL territories. In North America, it is a XBLA-only game. NaturalMotion has released a statement saying that factors beyond its control prevented the PSN release of the game.

505 Games announced today (June 7, 2011) at E3 2011 that it will be making a new Top Gun game based on the classic movie we all know and love.

Top Gun Hard Lock is set in present and will feature a new story and a new wave of elite naval aviators fresh out of the Top Gun academy. Players will launch right into the familiar flight scenes in a jet propelled flight combat adventure with a modern twist.

Gamertell Review: Grease: The Official Game for Nintendo Wii

Fans of Grease who are looking for familiar faces aren’t going to find them here. The songs are all newly recorded versions, and the animated characters look nothing like the Sandy, Danny and Eugene you’ve come to know and love. You’ve got to be a fan of the music, not the movie, to get into this game, because beyond the familiarity of the songs, there’s not much here to really make it all that fun.

Naughty Bear heads to the iPhone for portable beatings

Naughty Bear isn’t like all the other bears. He isn’t cute or fluffy, and he’s covered with scars. And even though he’s tried to be good, it’s a failed endeavor. The other bears are just nasty to him. So, he snaps and goes on a crime spree on Perfection Island. But apparently, his Xbox 360 and PS3 sieges weren’t enough to vindicate him. He’s now on iTunes and ready to bring fuzzy destruction to your iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches in a $2.99 portable version of Naughty Bear….

Supremacy MMA Teaser video

Supremacy MMA is in development for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The game is still early in development so there isn’t a release date yet. The trailer is edited with fast cuts and heavy metal and barely shows any actual gameplay. It appears Supremacy MMA is taking a more underground and gritty approach to the world of ultimate fighting.

E3 2010: Supremacy MMA amps up the brutality of cage fighting

Now that THQ is two games into its Undisputed franchise and EA Sports MMA is coming out in Fall 2010, the market for mixed martial arts games is getting crowded. Supremacy MMA is stepping up to fight without any league licensing or real fighters. Rather, this effort from publisher 505 Games and developer Kung Fu Factory is taking the approach Midway Games took with its Blitz football. No license means no holds barred and no marketing executives needing to approve gameplay. Thus there is no reason in-game fighters can’t snap someone’s arm with a submission or break someone’s neck with a choke hold.

Grease the game and the DS and Wii go together like ramma lamma lamma

Yet another contestant for “Movies Games that Shouldn’t Happen” has stepped into the ring thanks to 505 Games and Paramount Digital Entertainment. The two companies have joined together to bring the world Grease the video game. A release date has yet to be announced, but the companies have confirmed that the game will be appearing on the DS and Wii. I guess the companies saw the success of High School Musical and decided the original high school musical deserved games too.

Grease the game is, unsurprisingly, a music and rhythm game. The Wii version will utilize the microphone and remote to allow players to sing and dance along with the cast of Grease in the famous musical numbers. The DS game will likely focus on the dancing aspect, since the press release mentions it will focus on touch screen controls.

No matter how much I think about this, I still can’t convince myself that it isn’t desecrating one of my childhood memories…

Michael Phelps to follow in the footsteps of Tiger Woods and Shaun White

Its typical to see sports video games with a famous athlete’s name in the title. Perhaps it is designed to make the title seem more credible or authentic, since the virtual representation of a famous person is in the game or lends his or her name to the title. And really, it isn’t all that unexpected to see a pro golfer, football player or snowboarding star appear above a game.

On the other hand, it is a bit unexpected to see a swimmer appear there. But one will, in 2010 – Michael Phelps. 505 Games, which was previously known for releasing games in Europe but has recently created a base of operations in L.A, is going to be making Michael Phelps games for both next gen consoles and the iPhone. I bet you can’t wait to play a swimming game on your iPhone…
