a boy and his blob
Gamertell Review: A Boy and His Blob for Wii
The original A Boy and His Blob was a game that required you to use your brain to survive. Challenges weren’t always spelled out directly, and you’d have to find ways to outsmart or out manuever enemies since the blob didn’t have any real weapon transformations. The result was a game that become a revered NES classic.
Wayforward and Majesco have revived that classic with the Wii game A Boy and His Blob, and in doing so have created an homage that honors the original and will easily become a classic based on its own merits.
A boy is in his treehouse in the woods, spending the night, when he sees something streak across the sky and crash to the ground. As he ventures out, he sees weird dark blob creatures in the forest. As he works his way through to the wreckage, he sees a pure white blob come out. At first he’s scared, but he then sees the blob is no threat, and a friendship is born. He calls the blob over, and the two embark on a journey to save both the boy’s world from the inky invaders and the blob’s home world…
Celebrate “Blob Month” just in time for the release of A Boy and His Blob for Wii
Many of us are anxious for the new release of A Boy and His Blob by Majesco Entertainment Company. It’s been almost 20 years since the last game came out and we can’t stand waiting much longer.
In dedication to the October 6, 2009, release of the game, Majesco is declaring October “Blob Month.” Each week prior to the game’s availability starting September 24, 2009, the company will be releasing new screen shots, videos and concept art for the new game. (True, the game comes out at the beginning of the month but “Blob Week” isn’t nearly as impressive as “Blob Month”). I assume they will stop being released when the game comes out on October 6, 2009 (it wasn’t stated).
Hidden gems of E3 2009
By now, we all know the big games of E3 2009 – New Super Mario Bros. Wii, BioShock 2, Mass Effect 2, Assassin’s Creed 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, God of War III, and oh yeah, that game with the Beatles. But there were plenty of under-the-radar surprises at this year’s show – quality games that looked great without the benefit of the hype machine. The following are my top three picks that came right out of left field and made a major impression.
A fond look back at A Boy and His Blob
A Boy and His Blob is a series with a lot of history. It’s all pretty much ancient history though. Before the announcement of the forthcoming Majesco Wii remake, the last we’d seen of the boy and the blob was the Game Boy game The Rescue of Princess Blobette in 1990.
Those who played the original game may or may not have fond memories of it. While it was fun, with many ways to solve puzzles thanks the the plentiful jellybeans and blob transformations, it was also incredibly frustrating. The A Boy and His Blob games were of that rare variety that delighted in little hidden secrets and requirements. Didn’t go back and get this one item? Well, I bet you’re regretting that now that you’re trapped in a dungeon with no way to advance. Nope – we won’t let you backtrack and get that item. You brought this on yourself. It’s the only way you’ll learn. Go ahead and start over – and use a guide this time!
While we eagerly anticipate the forthcoming remake of the original, Gamertell decided to drag out the Nintendo and Game Boy and spend some time with the original games in order to take readers back to A Boy and His Blob’s roots…
A Boy and his Blob remake to get excited about
Majesco Entertainment Co, the maker of games including Cooking Mama and Contra 4, has decided to remake this classic NES game for the Nintendo Wii. The original game won numerous awards when it first came out in 1989, and was definitely an entertaining little game. This remake promises more jellybeans!
