A few of our favorite Lovecraft-inspired games

In the early 1900s, Howard Phillip Lovecraft birthed a pulp horror phenomenon that featured real madness and good writing. Since then his works have inspired multiple movies, games and new fiction being added yearly to the Cthulhu Mythos. The Cthulhu Mythos is a cornucopia collection of works that began with Lovecraft and includes gods, demons, forgotten evils with their attempts to re-manifest themselves into our world and the forbidden knowledge that helps them. Some of the stories that have a bigger showing as part of the Mythos are Call of Cthulhu and The Nameless City

For a spooky good time, Lovecraft is always worth a read, watch or a play. Enjoy the madness…

Alone in the Dark gets heated up for PS3 release

While Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2, and PC Alone in the Dark fans have all been enjoying the latest entry in the series since June 2008, it’ll finally be time for PlayStation 3 owners to get their scare on.

The already delayed PS3 version of the newest chapter in the Alone in the Dark series has received quite a few of improvements and has been given its own subtitle: Alone in the Dark: Inferno.

While storyline bits remain unchanged, Eden Games has promised a wealth of gameplay improvements based on the criticisms of the previous versions. These new improvements include…

The trouble with Uwe Boll

More often than not when you hear about the films House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, Alone in the Dark or In the Name of the King, there is a background of insulting murmurs of complete and utter contempt. They, and other absolutely horrid game-based movies, are either produced, written or directed by Uwe Boll.

Even though the majority of people can – and most likely will – argue that he is the worst thing to happen to game-based films, it’s a wonder why people still go to see his movies.

The trouble with Uwe Boll is that he wants respect but he’s going about it the wrong way…

Cut/Scenes: Lame game movie nights Part 4 – Evil in the Dark

It’s time for another lame game movie night, a new tradition here at Cut/Scenes where we take in two lame videogame movies and write about make fun of them. Tonight, we’re taking on the zombies of Resident Evil and Alone in the Dark’s monsters in another videogame-adapted horrorfest.

I chose to begin the evening with Resident Evil; a 2002 flick directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the man who also brought Mortal Kombat to the world (Along with other shlocky genre fare like Event Horizon and Alien Vs. Predator). I’m starting to think he’s the modern master of this kind of film, since almost everything he’s made is totally enjoyable in a dumb popcorn-y sort of way, and Resident Evil is no exception.

The Xbox 360 won’t be the only one with Alone in the Dark

Originally, Alone in the Dark was scheduled to only be released for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Atari and Hydravision have taken pity on other console owners, announcing that the horror action game Alone in the Dark will also be on the Wii and PS2. Hydravision has worked hard to try as best as more »
