apple app store gaming update
Apple App Store gaming update for the week of May 11 – May 17, 2009
Another week closer to WWDC and with it the good news that any apps being submitted and approved from here on out will have to be compatible for iPhone OS 3.0.
There’s also confirmation that OS 3.0 will bring age restriction to the iPhone and iPod Touch. This hopefully will mean that we won’t be hearing more about Apple’s ridiculous rejection of apps and instead place the responsibility on the parents/guardians.
But enough talk, let’s get to the apps..
Apple App Store gaming update for the week of April 27 – May 3, 2009
It must be getting closer to this year’s WWDC. How can we tell? Because there’s a slew of Apple rumors coming out the rumor mills. Will Apple finally start slashing prices on their products? Howabout that Netbook competitor? Is Apple getting into bed with Verizon? We’re taking bets and results will be posted next month readers. While you’re waiting, why don’t play one of these new gaming apps?
Apple App Store gaming update for the week of April 20 – April 26, 2009
It’s been a big week for the App Store. Apple’s App Store finally received (gave?) it’s one billionth app download! The lucky app to be downloaded was Bump, which allows users to swap information by bumping their hands together while holding their phones. It only took 9 months to get to one billion downloads which is a pretty big accomplishment, especially considering how broken the store is.
Also big this week, is the release of Assassin’s Creed, Trivial Pursuit and Land of the Lost. Okay, maybe not Land of the Lost on the App Store. You can expect our review of Assassin’s Creed later this week and at the same time play it for yourself because it leads off this week’s…
Apple App Store gaming update for the week of April 13 – April 19, 2009
As you can see, this week’s list is huge. I guess when you are trying to get up to a billion apps on your store, you’ll pretty much just open the floodgates, huh? Maybe Apple will even send me a nice sticker or something.
Grand illusions that Apple actually takes notice to this list aside, there are a few games worth checking out in this week’s avalanche, so let’s start with those…
Apple App Store gaming update for the week of April 6 – April 12, 2009
Happy Easter iPhone and iPod Touch gamers! Looks like the Easter Bunny brought us a decent set of gaming apps this week and even had the courtesy to limit the Easter-themed games. It’s nice to see mascots not too full of themselves.
Anyway, lets dig right into the basket and go right for the goodness with What You Might Want To Check Out…
Apple App Store gaming update for the week of March 30 – April 5, 2009
Yet another week rolls by and another sand passes through the hourglass as we gaze upon the first Monday of April.
This week’s notables are 24 Special Ops and Jeopardy. Pass the time as super agent Jack Bauer taking out terrorists from all around the world or engage in intellectual trivia on one of TV’s longest running quiz shows.
Per the norm, let’s kick off things with games you might want to check out…
Apple App Store gaming update for the week of March 23 – 29, 2009
The best part of your week has finally arrived!
This week brought us a healthy amount of gaming apps including this week’s highlight: Wolfenstein 3D Classic. id’s John Carmack has been particularly noted for his desire and belief of games on the iPhone and iPod Touch and this should be the first of what many fans are hoping will be many games from the id team.
Also released was Mega Man II. Capcom finally decided that enough was enough with the game show games and released a real game on the App Store. Unfortunately, that game was Mega Man II. It may just be me but releasing a game that may make you want to throw your iPhone across the room in blind anger might not be the best release decision (but keep trying, Capcom).
Apple App Store gaming update for the week of March 16 – March 22, 2009
The iPhone OS 3.0 has been divulged. If you missed it, I’ve linked AppleTell’s roundup of the “new” features at the bottom of the list and if you didn’t miss it, what did you hink?
The ability to purchase app content within the app seems really interesting though I wonder how long to developers find a way to abuse it. Electronic Arts revealed Sims 3, which will make use of the in app transactions for things like furniture, etc. Which brings us to the ultimate question of how much do developers charge for additional content? 50 cents for a new weapon?! I don’t think so. $2 for a furniture pack? Depends on price of game and amount of content. We’ll see how it goes.
The rest of the features seem like a yawn, though knowing they are there is nice.
Speaking of knowing its there, Metal Gear Solid Touch! is now available on the App Store, though you wouldn’t know it if you are crawling through the App Store. While filling out this list, MGS Touch wasn’t anywhere! Good thing you have this list to keep you informed since Apple still has some bugs to fix with the App Store. Our review should be up later this week.
Alright, enough talk. Let’s get down to what you want…
Apple App Store gaming update for the week of March 9 – March 15, 2009
A rather slow week this time around for the App Store, but that hardly matters thanks to this week’s feature release of The Oregon Trail by Gameloft. The media has been drooling about this game ever since it was announced and now you can relive the days playing the classic game on you Apple II on your iPhone or iPod Touch. We should have our review up this week.
This week we also got word that Apple plans to show off iPhone OS 3.0 this Tuesday (March 17, 2009). You can find a flurry of predictions already on the net with cut and paste the chief among them. Seriously guys? A new OS comes out and the biggest thing you demand is cut and paste? I’m more interested in what this is going to do for gaming on the iPhone and iPod Touch platforms. Will this improve speed and stability? How about battery life or file sizes? Of course, a new OS also means that a new device could be on the way especially knowing Apple’s release history. Hopefully all questions will be answered on Tuesday and even more hopefully we can get our hands on the OS soon, and one more hopefully for it not being as buggy as OS 2.0.
Anyway, you came here for a gaming apps list so click through and get it already…
