I love it when stores leak their own sale ads online early to get people excited about the coming deals. Target’s known for doing that and, would you look at that! It just did it again. The Target ad for January 29-February 4, 2012 has appeared online and there are quite a few sales gamers more »

The 2011 holiday season had a showdown between the third installments of the Modern Warfare and Battlefield franchises.

Day 17 of Amazon’s 19 Days of Deals is rather lackluster

Well, Amazon was a bit of a tease yesterday. When it said day 17 of its 19 Days of Deals in the video game section was sponsored by Mass Effect 3 and Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning, you’d have thought it would have meant both games would have been among the sale items. Well, the pre-orders for both games, since neither are released yet. Instead, December 15, 2011 brings us only four sale games, one headset Lightning Deal and the promise of Active Sports Day tomorrow…

Peter Moore believes Battlefield 3 stole Modern Warfare 3 market share

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 kept breaking industry records this Fall, selling 6.5 million units in 24 hours.

Despite Activision’s continued success with the franchise, EA COO Peter Moore, in an interview with Industry Gamers, pointed to BF3′s 5 million sold as evidence that the game is gaining ground. Moore said he felt the two games have both done a lot to grow the industry and that if BF3 hasn’t stolen market share, then it has added five million new first-person shooter fanatics.

He doesn’t address the possibility that at least some gamers purchased both high-profile games.

EA will be giving PS3 Battlefield 3 owners Battlefield 1943

It took some time, but EA has finally come around. Back at E3 2011, EA announced during a press conference that anyone with a PS3 would receive an extra incentive for purchasing Battlefield 3 for their system. Battlefield 1943 was going to be thrown in as well, giving people two games for the price of one. People rejoiced and I’m sure many bought it for that system just for the free game.

Then, on October 25, 2011, Battlefield 3 was released. Immediately, PS3 owners saw something was awry. There was no Battlefield 1943

Toys R Us’ November 27 – December 3, 2011 ad has deals for people who didn’t brave Black Friday

Black Friday’s come and gone, Cyber Monday is tomorrow and people are generally in full-on, holiday shopping mode. Toys R Us’ latest ad for November 27-December 3, 2011 fascilitates that. There aren’t a ton of exceptional deals, certainly nothing that compares to some of the Black Friday 2011 sales we’d seen, but there are a few deals worth noting.

First, there are a number of custom bundles this week…

DICE punishes hundreds of Battlefield 3 glitchers

It didn’t take long for Battlefield 3 players to stumble onto an annoying glitch that some used to cheat the system. A trick with the Engineer’s repair tool allowed players to gain in excess of 100,000 experience points per match, leveling up way too fast.

On its official Twitter feed, developer DICE announced its swift and righteous use of the banhammer. DICE banned hundreds of accounts and stat-wiped many others. The bans are across all platforms. The developer is asking for players’ help in keeping a balanced community. If you see cheating or glitching, send a direct message to the developers along with a screenshot of the Battle Log report.

Battlefield 3 gets DLC thanks to Dr. Pepper

EA and Dr. Pepper (the drink) have joined forces to bring exclusive DLC to Battlefield 3. This promotion works just like similar cross-branding agreements made between video game publishers and owners of food and beverage brands. On specially marked Dr. Pepper bottles, there will be a code that can be redeemed on Dr. Pepper’s website for in-game DLC such as dog tags, a multiplayer skin or dog tags. Every bottle contains a code, so there’s really no risk to this.

EA thinks it sold 5 million copies of Battlefield 3

Electronic Arts is very pleased with the performance of Battlefield 3. Today, the publisher announced Battlefield 3 has sold five million units around the world. This number is based on EA’s “internal estimates”, so BF3 may have sold more or less than that. EA’s estimates have also led the company to believe BF3 is now the fastest selling game in the company’s history.

EA hopes to mend its broken promise with your money

PS3 owners have been spending so much time engaging the enemy in Battlefield 3 multiplayer, some have forgotten about a little promise EA made back in June. In an effort to step up sales of Battlefield 3 on PS3, EA said it would include a voucher to download Battlefield 1943. Of course if you purchased BF3 on PS3, that voucher is nowhere to be found. That’s because EA decided to squash the offer ahead of time. But don’t worry, EA has the perfect consolation.
