This version of the game doesn’t come with the uber-popular Blitz mode, but the Classic, Action and Endless modes are there.

Mike Leyde is the Bejeweled 2 master

On March 23, 2009, Mike Leyde did what many thought was impossible – he mastered Bejeweled 2. After playing for over 2,200 hours and three years, he managed to get the highest possible score in the game – 2,147,482,575. Theoretically, he could have gotten an even higher score, but when he made the next match the game couldn’t handle it and his score turned into a negative number.

So why are we only hearing about this now? The reason is two-fold. Popcap first wanted to verify Leyde’s score to ensure that he had actually had gotten 2.147 billion points in Bejeweled 2, as it’s never been done before and reaching it was considered impossible. Second, 2010 marks the 10th anniversary of Bejeweled and the company thought that news like this was best saved for a special occasional.

If you want to check out all of the stats from Leyde’s momentous game, check out this video on PopCap’s YouTube Bejeweled Channel…

Apple releases list of most downloaded iPhone games of 2008

So far, the gaming media has been a little slow taking the iPhone as a gaming platform seriously and with good reason too. Yes, the iPhone does have the potential to create some amazing looking and innovative games, but the problem is that very few developers are taking the time to put out anything of quality past various puzzle and word game clones. For proof, you can check out our weekly App Store gaming update (which you should be doing anyway!).

So it should come as no surprise that when Apple announced the top downloaded games for 2008, there are some familiar names on the board. Some of these games have been featured on a top ten list for at least three weeks if not more. Keep in mind that this is a top ten list out of thousands of games. Regardless, here are the top ten lists for both paid and free games…
