Celebrate 1 year of DSiware with 10 of the best DSiWare games

Nintendo’s celebrating a little milestone today – the DSiWare service is now one year old today (April 5, 2010)! In case you’re wondering, yes, the DSi turns one today as well. The system and service both launched on April 5, 2009.

The company doesn’t have anything special planned to celebrate the event, unfortunately. So sorry if you were hoping to score some discounted DSiWare games today. Nintendo also didn’t release any special, highly anticipated DSiWare games either. It’s sort of sad, in a way, that the occasion is going to pass without any kind of special announcement or release.

So instead, Gamertell has put together a brief list of the 10 best DSiWare games available on the service today. Hopefully, you’ll find a game or two to play to celebrate the occasion…

Nintendo downloads for December 14, 2009

Once again, Nintendo has a presented a pretty full line-up of new downloadable games. The company is probably relying on the Christmas season to help boost sales. It’s probably a good idea. I’m sure some people are taking advantage of the gift option to send WiiWare and Virtual Console games to friends.

The section with the best downloads this week is Virtual Console, as the classics Blaster Master and Earthworm Jim 2 have both been added to the store. The WiiWare section comes in second, while the DSiWare section easily takes last place with its assortment of rereleases, ports and demos.

Gamertell’s Nintendo Download picks for the week are Earthworm Jim 2 (Virtual Console) and Blaster Master (Virtual Console).

Spin some gems with Bejeweled Twist on your phones next year

Bejeweled fans’ fingers have probably stopped twitching about now. They’ve had a while to get obsessed with, and then get over, Bejeweled Twist. Sadly, they’ll need to start preparing themselves for more finger cramps – PopCap Games is releasing Bejeweled Twist on cell phones in 2009. So North American and European casual game fans who get hooked on the match-3 game should probably start doing some exercises or something to prepare their thumbs.

As you may recall, Bejeweled Twist was released back at the end of October, 2008. Unlike the priginal Bejeweled, where you shift two gems to group gems of the same color together, Bejeweled Twist has you spinning groups of four to match up three or more gems of the same color. As you can probably deduce, it takes quite a bit more effort and thought than the original Bejeweled. PopCap has confirmed that, if your mobile device has a touch screen, there will a touch screen control option…

PopCap Games donates copies of Bejeweled Twist to Games for Soldiers

Thanksgiving isn’t until November 27, 2008, but that isn’t stopping PopCap Games from showing its appreciation for the US armed forces now. In a moving gesture, PopCap Games has decided to donate the first 500 retail copies of its latest entry in the Bejeweled series, Bejeweled Twist to Games for Soldiers. The 500 games are being shipped to Gamers for Soldiers on November 13, 2008, and Games for Soldiers will then distribute the copies to men and women stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Games for Soldiers is a small, not-for-profit group started by Jesse Williams. The goal is to try and amass donations of video games, video game consoles, cards and travel games to give the soldiers something to do in their freetime while they are stationed overseas. The charity’s main focus is on video games. Games for Soldiers then sends these items to members of the Army, Airforce, Marines and Navy, primarily in Afghanistan, but also to other regions…

Bejeweled Twist to put a new spin on a classic

Get ready to spend more hours killing time in front of your computer – PopCap has just released Bejeweled Twist. Currently, the casual puzzle game is available only through the official Bejeweled Twist site, both as a free demo and a 19.95 full version and is designed for Windows XP and Vista machines. PopCap is also offering a deal where people can get Bejeweled, Bejeweled Twist and Bejeweled 2 for $34.95. Bejeweled Twist will be available in stores and on other game portals on November 18, 2008.

The new version has you rotating four gens in the grid to match up three or more gems of the same color to eliminate lines. If you’re curious how this works, sign up for the free-to-play pet sim Moshi Monsters and play the electric factory game. The original Bejeweled had you just swapping two gems’ positions at a time to make rows of three or more of like colored gems…
