Apple removes Big Fish Games’ subscription-based app
Yesterday, it was revealed that Big Fish Games earned Apple’s approval to release an app that would require users to pay $4.99 a month to stream dozens of the companies games. It would have been the first time a videogame company moved away from the a la carte business model in the Apple App Store. Unfortunately for Big Fish Games, Apple has had a change of heart. Without explanation, the subscription app was pulled from the App Store.
Streaming games coming to iOS from Big Fish Games
Big Fish Games is about to introduce a new way to purchase and play its games on iOS. Bloomberg reported Apple has allowed Big Fish Games to start a subscription service for its games on the iPad. Instead of paying for each game individually, Big Fish Games will offer unlimited access to several of its games for $4.99 a month. The price will increase to $6.99 a month once more games become available next year.
Review: Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident for Wii
The Mystery Case Files games have a rather impressive pedigree. It is a series of casual, hidden object games created by Big Fish Games, primarily for Windows and Macs. The first entry was Mystery Case Files: Huntsville, back in 2005. There have since been seven computer games, four novels, one cell phone game and one DS game released. Now, for the first time, Mystery Case Files is appearing on a console with the Wii release Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident and it is an impressive showing…
Haunted Manor for iOS is a nice change of pace from action games
Haunted Manor: Lord of Mirrors is a game for iOS that makes you slow down and focus. A lot of iOS games out there strive for quick bursts of excitement within a short period of time. Haunted Manor operates at an intentionally slower pace as you use your powers of perception to solve simple puzzles. Haunted Manor costs $2.99 and a free version offers a decent chunk of the story to get you hooked.
Gamertell Review: Soap Opera Dash for Windows and Mac
With all the Dash casual time management games PlayFirst has created, you almost have to wonder what the company could possibly come up with next. The answer is Soap Opera Dash, a frantic time management simulation where players have to help Rosie work with the residents of Dinertown to put on a successful soap opera. Unlike some of the other Dash entries, Soap Opera Dash basically throws you into a frantic situation with a few tutorials, hoping you pick up enough from the brief introduction to make it through frenzied episodes of a new series. It’s fun, but you better be ready to work and have a reliable mouse if you want to succeed…
Gamertell Review: Cooking Dash 3: Thrills & Spills for Windows and Mac
Dinerland was a dilapidated theme park. There was nothing worth seeing and Mr. Big, the new owner, was stressed trying to figure out how to revitalize it and bring people in so he could repay the loan his dad gave him. He had 10 days to make Dinerland wonderful before his dad came by and saw what a disappointment it all was. Flo ran a food stand there, which happened to be the only thing in DinerLand that actually attracted customers.
Mr. Big decided to seize that opportunity. Coincidentally, most of the major rides in DinerLand also happened to have restaurants inside of them…
Gamertell Review: Wedding Dash 4-Ever for Windows, Mac
Quinn’s wedding planning business, which Flo from Diner Dash helps her with, is going very well. In fact, everything in her life is going pretty well – until her mom drops by. Quinn’s mom still thinks Quinn is engaged and preparing to marry Joe, and has come to visit and help plan the wedding.
The thing is, the wedding’s off…
Gamertell Review: Dream Chronicles: The Book of Air for Windows, Mac
KatGames and PlayFirst found huge success with the original Dream Chronicles series, a trilogy of casual computer games which combined adventure gameplay and storytelling with casual mini-games and puzzles to tell a rich, fairy tale. The first three games follow Faye, a mortal woman who married a fairy man named Fidget, who must save her husband and their daughter from the Fairy Queen of Dreams Lilith. In the end of the original series, Faye and Fidget learn their daughter Lyra is a chosen child with a great destiny.
Now, with Dream Chronicles: The Book of Air a new trilogy begins. This time Lyra finds she has a new journey that she must undertake to realize her own destiny…
Gamertell Review: Love & Death: Bitten for PC and Mac
Playfirst’s latest hidden object adventure, Love & Death: Bitten, is an amazingly entertaining affair. Notice I say adventure, and not game. That’s because Love & Death: Bitten feels like more than just a simple casual game. From the very first moment, you’re drawn into a supernatural story where the game and adventure elements perfectly blend together to create an experience that’s easy to get lost in.
A diabolical sorceress named Celeste has a vampire named Damon trapped in a tower with her, under a spell as her servant and lover. She uses him, and all of her other supernatural minions, to cause trouble for the small town outside of her forest. However, there may be hope for Damon. The elderly wise woman Odette has foreseen that a human woman named Victoria may be able to help free Damon from Celeste…
Casual Friday: Update for January 9 – 15, 2010
Big news this week in the casual game world. Remember how GameHouse and RealArcade joined forces and became one big site? Well, now Big Fish Games and PlayFirst are teaming up, though it looks like PlayFirst will remain open for now. I guess that explains why PlayFirst hasn’t been having as many new games debut on the site as usual.
As for new casual games, this week’s lineup is sparse, but diverse. There’s a lot for hidden object fans, and even an RPG for those who like a little more action and strategy elements in their games. There’s even a Big Fish Game Club Members exclusive sneak peek game out.
This week’s best bet is: The Fall Trilogy (PC)…
