No BlizzCon 2012 for you
Well, this news is about to break one of my best friends’ hearts. Activision Blizzard has just canceled BlizzCon. So don’t go saving up for your tickets or organizing a meetup, because BlizzCon 2012 isn’t happening. World of Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo fans throughout the country are crying out in grief. Okay, now that you’ve more »
Documentary Review: Gamers
Director Ben Gonyo does a decent job exploring MMORPGs from different angles as he interviews players, psychologists, developers, ex-addicts, and convention attendees. At the same time however, I felt that this documentary was made several years too late.
Blizzcon 2011 will be held October 21 – 22, 2011
Diablo, StarCraft and World of Warcraft better save the dates October 21-22, 2011. Blizzard’s going to be holding the sixth ever Blizzcon then. Of course, saving the date won’t do much good if you can’t get tickets. Since the ticket sale date hasn’t been announced yet, it doesn’t hurt to circle those dates on your calendar.
As usual, Blizzcon 2011 will be held in Anaheim, California at the Anaheim Convention Centre…
World of Warcraft’s cuddly new companions will benefit charity
Even a hardened Paladin can’t make it alone through the dangerous world of Azeroth. You need allies, magic and maybe even a pet. One of the keys to World of Warcraft‘s success is the huge amount of character customization. You and I might play the exact same race and class but that doesn’t mean our characters would be identical.
Blizzard’s Pet Store has unveiled sneak previews of two new companions, the Lil’ Ragnaros and the Moonkin Hatchling. Aren’t they cute? Cute in a big-eyed, otherworldly sort of way?
BlizzCon 2010 coming to Anaheim October 22-23, 2010
BlizzCon, the celebration of all Blizzard’s gaming properties and the diehard communities that love them, is coming to the Anaheim Convention Center October 22-23, 2010.
In addition to finding out the latest developments in the Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo universes, the fifth BlizzCon gaming convention offers contests, discussion panels with Blizzard developers and of course, hands-on play time with the games.
BlizzCon 2009 is a go
You know, in this sea of utter crap that is our economy, it’s nice to see that certain cherished traditions will live on. BlizzCon – the official convention for all things Blizzard (you know, the maker of such fine games as Starcraft II and World of Warcraft) is officially on for next August. According to Joystiq the event is planned for August 21-22, 2009 at the Anaheim Convention Center, and the convention will sprawl across four halls (as opposed to last year’s three).
BlizzCon 2008: Blizzard may start charging fees for Battle.net
Joystiq reports that our worst fears have been hinted at. When asked, “Will Battle.Net remain free?”, at the Diablo III gameplay panel at BlizzCon 2008, Blizzard’s Julian Wilson gave Blizzard fans a startling answer: “We are looking to monetize Battle.Net so that we get to keep making these games and updating features, we kind of have to.”
This news comes especially dark seeing as how Blizzard recently announced it is breaking Starcraft II into…
BlizzCon 208: Wizard class announced for Diablo 3
Blizzard promised us five classes for the upcoming Diablo 3 and now we know three of them. The newest class is the Wizard class, which will now join the Barbarian and Witch Doctor classes previously shown off earlier this year (2008).
While little is known about the Wizard class, a press release posted in the Joystiq article describes the class as: “A wielder of the elements and a master manipulator of time, the wizard can hurl environment-shattering lightning bolts, channel explosive arcane energies, and…
BlizzCon 2008: Starcraft 2 getting single-player trilogy
How epic is the Starcraft 2 single-player story? How about so epic that Blizzard will be releasing it as a trilogy.
At BlizzCon 2008 (October 10, 2008), Rob Pardo, the executive vice-president of game design for Blizzard, announced that indeed Starcraft 2 will be released as a trilogy rather than one giant game for Mac and PC in 2009. That means that eager Starcraft fans (me) will have to purchase the main game and the two “expansion packs” in order to find out what happens in the highly anticipated sequel.
The first of the trilogy will be the the Terran campaign subtitled Wings of Liberty. The second will be…
BlizzCon schedule revealed
Blizzard has finally posted the schedule of events for this year’s iteration of BlizzCon. The event begins this Friday, August 3, 2007, and runs through Saturday, August 4, 2007, at the Anaheim convention center.
The very first event planned on Friday morning is open gaming time with StarCraft 2, which is likely to be the star of the show. Also planned are tournaments for Warcraft 3, StarCraft, and World of Warcraft, alongside discussions and panels.
Panel highlights include two StarCraft 2 live demos, discussions on cinematics, sound/music and careers in gaming, lore and art from Blizzard titles, and even WOW classes. And lest the cosplayers among us get worried, there will be …
