Braid to be boxed, sold at retail

Videogame developer and publisher MumboJumbo will be responsible for Braid‘s release in stores. It hopes to expand Braid‘s audience to those who may not have the ability to purchase games digitally.

Braid finally finds its way to the PS3

Next week’s PlayStation Store update is going to feature the critically acclaimed Braid among its many new downloads. Jonathan Blow’s thought-provoking, beautiful and time-controlling action game is finally going to make its debut November 12, 2009. It’s going to cost you $14.99 if you decide to pick it up, which is what the XBox 360 version cost when it debuted back in 2008. While Number None handled the Xbox Live Arcade and Windows versions, Hothead Games was tasked with the Mac and PS3 ports.

Braid is a rather unique platformer. The star, Tim, is journeying through multiple environments and worlds in an attempt to save a princess. Players aren’t given many details of the storyline, and only know that Tim has to reach the princess and make up for a mistake he had made…

Braid coming to PCs March 31, 2009

According to Joystiq, Stardock (publishers of Sins of a Solar Empire) has announced that a PC version of last summer’s breakout Xbox Live Arcade puzzle game, Braid, is set to be released via digital distribution over Stardock’s Impulse service on March 31, 2009, for $14.95.

The name of the game in 2008: Innovation

Well, 2008 is over now, and we can officially make judgments from our 20/20 hindsight.

One of the biggest (baddest?) buzzwords of the year was innovation. Game critics debated the merits of innovation – specifically, whether developers deserve credit for delivering truly new experiences, even if they contain flaws. Developers and publishers touted innovation and new IPs as the greatest new thing, and the best thing for the industry (especially if their game happened to fit into that category). And perhaps most important of all, gamers themselves discussed innovative game design, trying to decide if we’d rather have new (and maybe rough around the edges) or the familiar (and maybe polished and near-perfected).
