Gamers Outreach Foundation to host charity gaming event

Just got a message from my friend Zach Wigal of Gamers Outreach Foundation about an upcoming video game convention, Gamers 4 Giving, a charity event to be held at the Eastern Michigan University Student Center located on 900 Oakwood Street in Ypsilanti, Michigan (USA), starting 2 p.m. on February 27, 2009, and ending March 1, 2009. This year’s Gamers 4 Giving event will focus on raising funds to catapult the GOF 2009 community initiatives.

Events include a “300 MAN LAN” party PC tournament, Super Smash Brothers Brawl and 2vs2 Halo 3 Tournament.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare getting a direct sequel for 2009 holiday season

Despite nearly a dozen Call of Duty games released since 2003, fans just can’t seem to get enough of the intense first-person shooter series.

To date, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare stands on a hill of its own, selling more than fourteen million copies worldwide, dozens of Game of the Year awards and still in the top five played Xbox Live games on the market. Now, it is finally confirmed after more than a year of speculation that Call of Duty 4 is indeed getting a direct sequel.

Simply titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Activision/Blizzard revealed…

Canadian journalist indirectly blames Call of Duty 4 for Brandon Crisp’s death

Now that the dust has settled and the public has looked past Crisp’s passing, one member of the mainstream media, Canadian journalist Jesse Brown, has taken the opportunity via a podcast to offer his opinions on the matter.

Brown’s estimations on the matter were formulated after he had the opportunity to spend time playing on Call of Duty 4’s multiplayer setting. After playing, he expressed disappointment with the vulgar language that was expressed by other Xbox Live participants. In closing, he recalled his time there as a…

Runaway Call of Duty 4 player Brandon Crisp found dead

Sad news is coming out of Canada today (November 6, 2008) – specifically, the town of Barrie, in Ontario. Brandon Crisp was discovered by two deer hunters today a little over a mile away from where his bike was found on October 20, 2008. Brandon originally ran away on October 13, 2008, after a dispute with his parents over video games.

Brandon’s parents, Steve and Angelika Crisp, had felt that the amount of time he spent playing games, specifically Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, was excessive, and they had decided it was time to take away the fifteen year old’s Xbox 360 for good. Brandon rebelled at the news, and decided to run away. His parents thought this threat was idle, and so didn’t stop him – his father even helped Brandon with his preparations before he left…

Activision Blizzard discovers the Call of Duty money tree

Activision Blizzard is contemplating capitalizing on the popularity of the multiplayer modes in the Call of Duty series by further charging for the experience. The company sees the potential of making money outside of the retail space by bringing out more content to purchase digitally. Mike Griffith, the CEO of publishing for Activision Blizzard, noted one of the reasons behind CoD 4‘s low resale numbers is the additional content it offers. It also explains why CoD 4 is still selling strong at $59.99.

According to Griffith, the average Call of Duty 4 player has spent 5 days of their life playing online since buying the game…

Price Drop: Call of Duty 4 for PS3 $39.99 on Amazon

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2007 and its influence continues to spread over the gaming world. Millions of people have already purchased the game, but for those who have been meaning to, Amazon is selling CoD 4 Game of the Year Edition on PS3 for only $39.99. It is also eligible for free shipping if you don’t mind waiting a few extra days to receive the game.

There are a couple things that are strange about this deal. First off it’s not listed for the new low price after doing a basic search for the game. It’s listed under the Featured Merchants section of Amazon even though you’re getting the game from Amazon in the first place. Secondly, the game is listed as taking 4 to 7 weeks to ship. It seems the game will be delivered in almost two months at the latest. By that time Call of Duty: World at War should be close to its own release date…

Labor Day Sale: Call of Duty 4 for PC $39.95

Now is your chance to pick it up at a $10 discount from Direct2Drive. The sale started August 29, 2008, and will continue until midnight, September 1, 2008.

Direct2Drive offers the game as a digital download that is stored right onto your hard drive. The game comes…

Call of Duty going back to WWII with World at War

After ten million units sold in just seven months after the November, 2007 release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Activision is hoping that gamers are ready to strap their combat boots back on and return once again to the theater of war, but which theaters? Well apparently, World War Two hasn’t quite been won yet.

Call of Duty: World at War will return the franchise back to the Second World War roots, but this time we’ll get to jump from the Atlantic theater and take the fight to the Japanese on the Pacific side of the war.

Playstation Store Update for the week of April 24 to May 1, 2008

The relaunch of the Playstation Store must’ve given Sony some major momentum. There’s actual meat in this update too. Indeed, it’s much better if you ask me. It’s putting a few PSP games up for download, along with a PS1 offering. Well, that’s kind of a misnomer, since it’s R-Types which was a PS1 compilation of the first two games of the ancient shmup series. They’re truly the defining epics of our times right now: frustrating and nigh impossible, but at least they’re fun. For those keeping score, R-Type II is actually the original version from which Super R-Type, on the SNES and Wii Virtual Console, was ported, except this version is easier, having those strange “checkpoint” things.

We’ve also got tons of music game add-ons, in addition to some Call of Duty 4 stuff. Consume, folks.

DS day at Amazon

Amazon has some amazing Gold Box deals today (April 25, 2008) on five DS titles. Advance Wars: Days of Ruin is the “Deal of the Day,” and will be on sale all day for $16.99. The other four games will be “Lightning Deal” sales – where only a certain amount of merchandise will be available and on sale for a limited period of time.

DS Fanboy is keeping an updated list of what the “Lightning Deal” games are as they are revealed. The first deal, available at 6am PDT, was $18.99 copies of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Only 44% of the available stock for that deal were purchased. The 10am PDT deal is $14.99 copies of Master of Illusion. That probably won’t last long though, because as I type, the % claimed bar is creeping closer to 100%.
