Metal Gear Solid: Rising was cancelled
There’s a good reason why we hadn’t heard anything about Metal Gear Solid: Rising in so long. The game was cancelled, but the public was not informed. During the VGAs this past weekend, the game returned as Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. According to Andriasang, the story behind the death and rebirth of Rising was discussed on the the Hideraji podcast featuring Kojima Productions’ Yuji Korekado.
The Avengers game that never was
Earlier this month, THQ underwent a restructuring process. The result of the restructuring caused a couple Australian studios to close in addition to layoffs in Phoenix. Sometimes when studios close, projects they were working on cease to exist. It now appears that the Australian arm of THQ was planning on making a game based on The Avengers before it closed.
Saint’s Row: Drive-By has been cancelled
Almost one year ago, we were teased about an upcoming downloadable game in the Saint’s Row franchise. Saint’s Row: Drive-By was supposed to be released on XBLA and 3DS. It was going to be positioned in a way similar to what THQ did with Red Faction: Battlegrounds. Battlegrounds is a downloadable game that was meant to get the public excited about Red Faction: Armageddon. It also unlocks some additional content for Armageddon. Saint’s Row: Drive By was going to do the same thing, but it now appears that the game has been cancelled.
Say goodbye to Gun Loco
I hope you weren’t waiting on Gun Loco. Really, because if you were then there’s some bad news. Brace yourself – the Xbox 360 shooter you thought would arrive sometime this year won’t be coming. It’s been cancelled. Wave goodbye to that bunny-mask wearing criminal above, because you won’t see him ever again.
Square Enix announced the cancellation at the Japanese Gun Loco website…
Japan Import: Irem cancels Disaster Report 4 after earthquake and tsunami
PS3 owners won’t be helping their virtual avatar survive a virtual disaster anytime soon. After everything that has happened in Japan as a result of the 2011 Sendai earthquake, Irem has decided that releasing its PS3 adventure game Disaster Report 4 – Summer Memories - would have been in extremely poor taste. So instead of marking it as TBA, the company has just decided to completely cancel it. It also issued an apology to everyone anticipating the game’s release. I’m sure they’ll all understand…
Panasonic’s Jungle is no more
Panasonic pulled back the camouflaged curtain to unveil the Jungle last year. The Jungle was a handheld gaming console with a twist. Instead of catering to gaming on the go, the Jungle was a cross between a netbook and a proper gaming handheld. It was to offer a way to play MMOs on the go without hauling a laptop around. It was an outrageous concept and looked to be DOA. Maybe that’s why Panasonic decided to scrap it.
THQ cancels PS3 release of Destroy All Humans! Path of Furon
Apparently, aliens just do not like Playstations. I don’t know what they have against it but at least Playstation owners will not have to worry about things like um, probing and melting ray guns. Good riddance I says!
I bet Sony probably doesn’t see it that way as the THQ has confirmed to ShackNews that the Playstation 3 version of Destroy all Humans! Path of Furon will not be invading the Blu-ray-packing machine after all. This news comes just days until the game’s expected release on December 1, 2008, and officially makes Destroy All Humans! Path of Furon an Xbox 360 exclusive game.
ShackNews points out this is the second Destroy all Humans game this year to receive the axe on a…
Say “buh bye” to the E for All Expo
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) recently announced that E3 2009 will be expanding into something that more closely resembles the massive spectacle the event used to be known for, as opposed to the smaller E3 Media & Business Summit of recent years (2007‒2008).
In response to this news, the International Data Group (IDG) has confirmed that the E for All Expo will not be making a comeback in 2009. Speaking with Joystiq, an IDG spokesperson confirmed that the organization’s “focus now turns to E3.”
An ESA spokesperson explained…
