Duke Nukem Forever has a Balls of Steel edition

If you’re one of those people who has been waiting over 10 years for Duke Nukem Forever, then you may be a perfect candidate for the Balls of Steel edition. Yes, there is going to be a collector’s edition of the game, and that is what it is called. Really catches your attention. The Duke Nukem Forever First Access Club got to hear about it first, and now Gearbox Software and 2K Games have officially announced it to the world…

Collectible cards come to Dungeons and Dragons

Apparently Gamma World cards are a hit and WotC now plans to release Fortune Cards for D&D and I can’t help but hear ghostly echoes of the warnings from a decade ago.

Fallout: New Vegas Collector’s Edition is awesome

In case you’ve been wondering what to get the Fallout fan who has everything, Bethesda Softworks and Obsidian Entertainment have a thought – the Fallout: New Vegas Collector’s Edition. It has it all, when you think about it. It has the newest Fallout game, Fallout: New Vegas for the PC, PS3 or Xbox 360, and a selection of Fallout: New Vegas paraphernalia.

The Fallout: New Vegas Collector’s Edition specialty items manage to be both unique and informative! The informative items include a The Making of Fallout: New Vegas documentary DVD and All Roads by Chris Avellone, the graphic novel that acts as a prequel to the game. The unique items are seven Lucky 7 poker chips, one Lucky 38 platinum poker chip and a deck of Fallout: New Vegas playing cards.

Such extravagence does come at a price…

Gamertell Review: Geek Fight! trading card game

Geeks are usually considered to be awkward, a bit gangly and often without much tact. They also like to argue with each other, sometimes degrading into what would be a silly looking slap fight. Sounds like the perfect premise for a game, eh?

Diving Dragon Games has taken the humorous idea of a pair of geeks in awkward slap match to the table in the form of Geek Fight! the trading card game. This indie card game does have love of the game on its side and gets big kudos for decent production value and humor. However, much like the geeks it parodies, it needs a less geeky friend to help make the game a little more newbie friendly.

Christmas cards from game companies (2008 edition)

Each year I receive a stack of holiday greeting cards from various game and entertainment companies. Some come with small physical gifts (*cough* Sony *cough*) while others simply highlight a few featured game characters.

This year, more companies have sent electronic cards and none have included a small gift (so far). I’ll take it as both an effort to be a bit more green (as in less paper) and economical (as in no expense except maybe a couple hours to designer, if that).

To check out the full gallery, click the Photo Gallery link or click on the thumbnails below. I’ll be adding more cards as I receive them, either in pulpy paper or digitized format.

Microsoft to aid users unable to take advantage of “New Xbox Experience”

Microsoft is set to unveil its “New Xbox Experience” to eager 360 owners on November 19, 2008. This update is set to revamp the 360′s entire dashboard and introduce “avatars,” which are characters that players can customize to suit their own whims.

This “new experience” will come at a cost of 128 MB of hard drive space; while this may not be a problem for 360 owners who have purchased sufficient memory sources, there remains a large amount of individuals who have not. For these people, Microsoft has promised to come to their aid…

Magic: The Gathering changes to be implemented October 3, 2008

Wizards of the Coast, the company that is currently backing Magic: The Gathering, recently announced changes that are going to be implemented by October 3, 2008. Some of these changes are fairly standard, based on feedback from both new and veteran players of the game.

New changes include an added rarity level, a reduction in set size, new theme decks, booster pack re-composition and additions to the Fat Packs….

Gamertell Exclusive: Interview with indie game company, New Lineage Games

I’m always looking for new games to play, especially those that offer to be the most challenging. While browsing through my usual forums I saw a a post that read, “My cousin and I created a game company,” on Women Gamers. Curiosity led me to New Lineage Games, a new independent game company based in Tampa, FL, who recently released its first game Catalyst.

Catalyst is a variation on a traditional solitaire card game using a high score method. It’s nothing like the solitaire games most of us are used to. Instead of matching like colored suits or separating them into like suits this is played by selecting 3 cards from one column whose face value totals 10, 20 or 30. All face cards are worth 10 points, Aces are worth 1, and Jokers are wild (but you don’t gain any points for matching with jokers). The goal of the game is to remove all of the columns from play.

I talked to programmers Paul and Jamie Belanger from NLG to find out how they came up with and created Catalyst
