Casual Friday: Update for April 3 – 9, 2010

Another week, and another selection of new casual games ready to be enjoyed. This week is one of those rare times when an abundance of hidden object titles overwhelms all other games.

There aren’t any new Mac games, but there’s a great selection for PC owners that include general puzzle, shooting, hidden object, match-3, simulation and rpg games. So, if your eyes are tired from squinting and searching for tiny object or object fragments, grab some eye drops and check out something new from a different genre.

This week’s best bets are: Whisper of a Rose: Gold (PC) and Mind’s Eye: Secrets of the Forgotten (PC)

Casual Friday: Update for March 13 – 19, 2010

This is, quite possibly, an epic week for casual gamers. Not because there are any major or highly anticipated releases, though the Dream Day Wedding series is quite popular. No, it’s outstanding because there are 11 new casual games making their debut on the internet. (One of them is even a Mac game!)

Of course, the predominant genre is yet again hidden object, but other genres are represented as well. There are a number of time management games in this week’s lineup, like Drugstore Mania (PC) or The Palace Builder (PC, Mac), along with simulation, mahjong, RPG and match-3 games. You should have no problem finding something to keep you busy this weekend, or at work next week.

This week’s best bets are: Dream Day Wedding: Bella Italia (PC), The Palace Builder (PC, Mac) and Treasure Seekers: Follow the Ghosts (PC)

Casual Friday: Update for March 6 – 12, 2010

It’s Friday again, and it looks like there’s a monsoon of casual games releases to coincide with the onslaught of console and handheld games. Seriously, there’s a great selection of new casual games out there. Well, provided you own a Windows PC. (Sorry Mac gamers – maybe there’ll be something for you next week.)

In addition to that, there’s a great representation of multiple genres too! I’m seriously surprised! It’s not often you see two weeks in a row where hidden object games don’t dominate the casual release update. But, it’s happened again.

This week’s best bets are: Diner Dash 5: BOOM (PC) and Lilly & Sasha: Curse of the Immortals (PC)…

Casual Friday: Update for February 27 – March 5, 2010

This week’s update is huge. HUGE. There are eight new casual games out this week and the best part is, only half are hidden object games! Okay, Eden’s Quest: The Hunt for Akua (PC) is technically part hidden object and should boost the count to five hidden object games and three from other genres, but it also has adventure and match-3 elements so that kind of makes it more of a general puzzle game.

Seriously, take a good look at this week’s offerings. Chances are, no matter what kind of casual gamer you are, you’ll find something new that you might really love. There are games representing the puzzle, action, adventure, simulation and RPG genres below.

There’s only one Mac game though. Thankfully, that Mac game is RE: Alistair and happens to be free. (It also happens to be available for computers with Windows and Linux OSes.)

This week’s best bets are: RE: Alistair (PC, Mac, Linux), Apparitions: Kotsmine Hills (PC) and Clover: A Curious Tale (PC)…

Casual Friday: Update for February 20 – 26, 2010

Lots of games out this week, and lots of variety too! Sadly, no Mac games, but there were some last week so hopefully that should take the sting out of it.

As for the other games, it seems like all the developers and distributors got together and decided to make this “trapped alone in a deserted location” week. Three of the four casual games released this week place the player in situations where the lead heroine is trapped and alone, and must find answers to what’s going on and escape or survive. Two of the games, Secret Mission: The Forgotten Island and Escape from Lost Island are even set on deserted islands. Though not the same deserted island, because that’d be really awkward.

This week’s best bets are: Millenium 2: Take me Higher (PC), Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches (PC) and Youda Fairy (PC)…

Casual Friday: Update for February 6 – 12, 2010

There’ve been quite a few lovey-dovey casual games released recently, if you combine last week’s release of The Flower Shop (PC, Mac, Linux) with the recent releases Matchmaker: Joining Hearts (PC, Mac) and Love Story: Letters from the Past (PC). Even Settlement: Colossus (PC) has minor love-story elements! Seems like even casual game developers and publishers are in the mood for love.

Anyways, there are five new games this week. Once again, hidden object games are the most prevalent, with only one new entry, A Dwarf’s Story (PC), falling into a different category. (It’s a match-3 game, if you’re curious.) I hope you like finding things!

This week’s best bets are: Settlement: Colossus (PC) and Matchmaker: Joining Hearts (PC, Mac)…

Casual Friday: Update for January 30 – February 5, 2010

Happy Friday everyone! It’s been another slightly slow week, but there’ve been a few notable casual games released that will hopefully brighten your day and weekend! If you want to prepare for Valentine’s Day, which already next Sunday, then check out Winter Wolves’ latest visual novel slash dating simulation slash farming simulation hybrid, The Flower Shop. It works on Windows, Mac and Linux computers. There were also a glut of hidden object available, like usual.

If you’re strapped for cash, then check out Nekomura Games’ ButaVX, a short, stylized RPG that follows a young pig on his quest to retrieve his ball. It’s free! If it’s not your style, then visit Nekomura Games and look around, as the developer has a number of free visual novel, simulation and RPG games for PCs and Macs available.

This week’s best bets are: The Flower Shop (PC, Mac, Linux) and Alt Shift (PC)…

Casual Friday: Update for January 23 – 29, 2010

Happy Friday everyone! There are five new casual games available this week, all falling into the hidden object or time management category. Also, there’s good news for Mac owners as there’s actually a new, casual, Mac game available right now.

Our picks for this week are each from a different genre, so if one doesn’t seem interesting then maybe the other one will be. The first pick is Alice’s Tea Cup Madness, a time management game along the lines of Cake Mania or Passport to Perfume, only with tea instead of cake or perfume. The other is Million Dollar Quest, a hidden object game that also has an element of mystery as the challenges seem to be geared towards helping the amnesiac main character remember her past. The Sultan’s Labyrinth: A Royal Sacrifice, a hidden object game, also looks like it could have potential.

This week’s best bets are: Alice’s Tea Cup Madness (PC, Mac) and Million Dollar Quest (PC)…

Casual Friday: Update for November 28 – December 4, 2009

This week’s casual game offerings are a tad sparse. Thankfully, the new games that are available aren’t all hidden object titles. Though there are only five new casual games debuting, they represent multiple game genres.

It’s a pretty good week for Mac owners who enjoy casual games. There were two good releases, Wildhollow and Christmas Clix, which both had Mac versions available at the same time as the Windows release. Christmas Clix is extraordinarily prolific, appear on PCs, Macs, the iPhone and iPod Touch and WiiWare all at the same time.

This week’s best bets are: Wildhollow (PC, Mac) and Christmas Clix (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch and WiiWare)…

Casual Friday: Update for November 14 – 20, 2009

This week is filled with announcements. First, RealArcade and GameHouse have joined forces. So now there’s just GameHouse. If you have a RealArcade account, don’t worry. It’s been transferred over to GameHouse and you can still use it.

Second, Cute Knight Kingdom and Gyromancer are out! Both are highly anticipated games. One’s a Princess Maker style simulation from independent developer Hanako Games, the other is a puzzle RPG collaboration between Square Enix and PopCap. Gamertell even reviewed Cute Knight Kingdom yesterday.

Third, there were more than just four or five hidden object games released this week! Still no new Mac games, but plenty of new PC games making their debut!

This week’s best bets are: Cute Knight Kingdom (PC), Gyromancer (PC, Xbox Live Arcade) and Delicious: Emily’s Holiday Season (PC)…
