Cave Story + is Christmas-y

cave story plus christmas

If there’s one company you can never accuse of grinch-y behavior, it’s Nicalis. That’s because it’s updated version of Cave Story, Cave Story + has received quite the surprise update today to celebrate the holiday. Everything is Christmas-y. Yes, it’s a festive adventure now!

Review: Cave Story 3D for 3DS

I am a huge Cave Story fan. I adored the freeware original on my computer and gladly purchased the Nicalis updated Wiiware port. Yet, when it came to Cave Story 3D, I was skeptical. I was such a fan of its classic, 2D presentation that I seriously wondered if Nicalis and NIS America could pull off a 3D 3DS port of this masterpiece.

I shouldn’t have been worried.

Cave Story 3D is the same fantastic Cave Story we all remember. Only this time, it’s prettier….

3DS owners have to wait a bit longer for Cave Story 3D

You won’t be grabbing Cave Story 3D for your 3DS in two months. Unfortunately, NIS America has just announced a rather unfortunate delay for the classic run-and-gun, Metroidvania port. It isn’t all that bad though. This delay isn’t just a tactic to release it on a more advantageous date in November to garner more money and attention. No, the release date is being shifted from August 9, 2011 to November 8, 2011 to make the game better…

Important Importables: Cave Story

For an indie, Japanese computer game that’s seven years old, Cave Story has carved quite a place for itself in the hearts of gamers. If you try it, it’s easy to see why. The solid story, gameplay and quality of even the original release are what makes it such a memorable adventure. While the basic fundamentals are relatively simple, there are plenty of secrets that make the original worth playing. Meanwhile, the more modern adaptations also have their own little hallmarks that have helped endear this surprising game to a new audience.

NIS America and Nicalis collaborating on Cave Story 3DS

NIS America held it’s big press event on February 10, 2011, and revealed a pretty big 3DS announcement. It turns out it is working with Nicalis on a new version of Cave Story. The story and premise is the same and it’s still a run-and-gun, side scrolling action game, but it now has new 3D environments and characters. So it’s a 2.5D game instead of a plain old 2D game now. That, and it’ll be released right around the 3DS launch window…

Gamertell’s 2010 last minute downloadable game Gift Guide

You’re in serious trouble. It’s the absolute last second and you still have a handful of people to shop for. But there’s always hope. Rather than running out to some store and battling the crowds today (December 23, 2010) or, even worse, on Christmas Eve, you can fall back on a nice downloadable game. It’s quick, it’s easy and in most cases, the online game store will automatically deliver your gift to whoever it is supposed to go to.

So here’s a brief list of downloadable DSi, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, PS3, PSP, Windows, Mac, Linux, Wii and Xbox 360 games you can get and send for friends. In many cases, it’s as easy as firing up your computer or system, going through a few listings and then entering the recipient’s email address or username…

Nintendo Downloads for November 29, 2010

This is another big week for Nintendo downloads! There are six new games available, with quite a few being anticipated titles! I think the Cave Story DSiWare port counts as being something a lot of people would want. Plus there’s Magical Drop II (Virtual Console) and Airport Mania: First Flight (WiiWare) to round things out.

Plus, there’s a whole new WiiWare demo available on the Wii Shop Channel. It’s a free Cave Storydemo! This will be quite helpful, since I’m sure a lot of Wii owners were hesitant about spending 1,200 Nintendo Points ($12) on the game without testing it out first…

Nicalis patches Cave Story

Cave Story has been fixed. Of course, it could be argued that it wasn’t really that broken to begin with. Nonetheless, the WiiWare version has been updated by Nicalis to make it even shinier than it was when it originally debuted on the Wii Shop Channel. Technically, it has been patched, but you can only get the newest version if you completely eradicate the old one from your system or SD card and redownload the whole thing…

Cave Story DS is a DSiWare game

The beloved indie masterpiece Cave Story is going to be ported again. This time, Nicalis is bringing it to another Nintendo platform – the DSi. Yes, DSi. The DS version of Cave Story is going to be released as a DSiWare download. This means only DSi and DSi XL owners will get to play it…
