Sony’s DC Universe Online, which offers players the chance to fight alongside heroes such as Batman or villains including Lex Luthor, launched recently. It’s likely the timing here is no coincidence on Atari’s part.

How to celebrate Halloween, MMORPG style

Halloween is approaching soon, boys and ghouls. Got any plans? I’m sure many of you will take the kids trick-or-treating, or even trick-or-treat yourselves. Good luck in finding that one house that gives full-size candy bars! But before you get in costume and bug your neighbors for sweets, you may want to check out the festivities in your favorite MMORPGs. Several games will once again bask in the Halloween spirit, with special themed quests, items, and costumes for players.

Although the full game isn’t expected to be released until Spring 2009 (for PC and Xbox 360), Cryptic Studios confirmed via press release that a closed beta for the PC version will be taking place…

Cryptic Studios and the PAX Party of Champions

Cryptic Studios was in a party mood on Friday night (August 29, 2008) of PAX, hosting a big shindig at Seattle’s Public Library. Since Cryptic was celebrating the soon-to-be released Champions Online, there were superheroes present.

I learned a lot about the Champions Online game. At first I was wondering how it was different from City of Heroes, a game also designed by Cryptic. I discovered that Champions Online does some things that City does not…

Rumor: Cryptic Studios taking over development of Star Trek Online

As we reported back in January 2008, P2 Entertainment, formerly Perpetual Entertainment, announced that it was no longer working on the its ever MMO centered on the Star Trek universe. For reasons not originally stated, P2 Entertainment had been pulled off of the development of Star Trek Online and all of its license material and game’s content (which did not include the code) had all been transferred over to a then unnamed Bay Area development studio.

Today (March 15, 2008), rumors have surfaced that the unnamed developer is Cryptic Studios, makers of City of Heroes/Villains and the upcoming Champions Online, will be taking over production of Star Trek Online

Champions Online coming Spring 2009

Four years ago City of Heroes made its debut as one of the more unique massively multiplayer online games to hit the market at the time, as it gave millions of gamers worldwide the chance to strap on a cape, lace up their leather boots and take to the skies as a bonafide super hero. But after numerous updates and a standalone expansion pack, City of Villains, City of Heroes has begun to get long in the tooth.

Hoping to maintain the loyal comic book crowd, Cryptic Studios is set to release another comic inspired MMO centered around the long standing pen and paper RPG series, The Champions.
