Chrono Trigger is a $10 iOS app

One of the most incredible and memorable RPGs of our time has just been ported to another platform, one that will give people who probably aren’t serious gamers access to it. Last night, Chrono Trigger was added to iTunes. Not only that, but it’s arguably the best version of the game ever released, a port of the DS version which included two additional areas, extra quests and an additional ending that helped really tie it in to its sequel, Chrono Cross.

Here’s a trailer. Hopefully, it will help draw you in and get you interested….

Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV arriving on PSN September 20

Well, technically they’re two of Square’s best games, but let’s not quibble. Nintendo Downloads for May 16, 2011

This is a huge week for Nintendo downloads, and you’re all probably thinking “Finally!” Well, you’ll find something this week for your system, especially if you own a Wii. There’s one WiiWare game, one Virtual Console game and three DSiWare games. The real stars are the highly anticipated debuts of both Chrono Trigger (Virtual Console) and Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove: Monster Mix (WiiWare). I told you Wii owners are going to be very happy this week.

There’s also a pretty good WiiWare demo available this week called Lead the Meerkats. It’s a simulation game where you have to first get your lost meerkat back to the pack, then help the pack survive. Normally it’s a $10 (1,000 Nintendo Point), so this is a good way to determine if it’s worth your money…

Chrono Trigger travels through time, lands on Wii

Okay, so the May 16, 2011 Wii Shop Channel update was already going to be awesome because that’s when Natsume’s Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove: Monster Mix WiiWare game will be released, but it turns out there’s something else to anticipate. You know, in case a dancing game involving adorable, super-deformed characters just isn’t your thing. Square Enix has announced that the SNES classic Chrono Trigger will also be gracing the Virtual Console section that day…

Opinion: Chrono Trigger, the greatest RPG of all time

When you ask a role-playing game fans what their favorite game is, you are most likely to hear Chrono Trigger for the Super Nintendo Entrainment System (NES).

This is because it was one of the best RPG’s ever made. It has all the great role playing elements and it was fun to boot.

What makes this game so great is that has every element you would want in an RPG. It was never really that difficult. There are a few bosses that will give you trouble, like the dreaded Golem Twins, but all you had to do was…

Amazon offers RPG bargain buys in honor of Cyber Monday 2008

Amazon is doing a great job of turning me into an every day lurker because it just keeps surprising me with its unbelievable deals on video games. In what I assume is an ode to Cyber Monday, Amazon is currently offering some great role-playing games (including brand new releases and pre-roders) at rock-bottom prices. This means that in addition to taking advantage of these thrifty sales tags, shoppers will also save on sales tax and receive free shipping so long as the order totals $25 or more.

It’s hard to say how long these prices will stay up, so you had better act fast and take advantage of these bargain bin finds. It looks like RPG fans will be able to stuff themselves full of something else besides just turkey this holiday season…

Japanese Chrono Trigger copyright protection bested by hackers

Well, the score is now Square Enix: 0, Hackers: 2. Square Enix has attempted to put copyright protection in its DS games, first in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, and now in the Japanese version of Chrono Trigger DS. Chrono Trigger is scheduled to debut in Japan on November 20, 2008, but already the rom of the game has been leaked online.

Initially, pirates were unable to play the Chrono Trigger rom though, due to Square Enix copyright protection that would make the game glitchy or crash. Not to be deterred, some adept hackers created a code which allows the game to run normally. Two codes were created, one for M3 Real flashcarts and one for general flashcarts, to allow pirates to play undisturbed.

Its disappointing to see protection broken so quickly…

It’s not concrete but Kotaku picked up a report from Japanese gaming goodness Famitsu, that Chrono Trigger DS will come with one additional ending as well as the all new “Character Mode.”

What could the newest ending to the smash hit RPG behold? No one yet knows as there weren’t any details but would you…

Man hacks Chrono Trigger to propose to girlfriend

Guys using videogames to propose to their girlfriends is nothing new but this story officially raises the bar for nerdy romantics everywhere. 1UP is reporting that a man on YouTube, who goes by the username “TheRealPfhreak,” recently decided to use the Square-Enix classic Chrono Trigger as the vehicle for his marriage proposal.

Only he didn’t just hack the game to make it display a special message but created an entire new area in the game for his girlfriend to explore, filled with references to their memories together. Said the groom-to-be:

“On October 17, 2008, I proposed to my (now) fiance. Originally I wanted to return to the site of our first date, Mount Baker, near Bellingham, Washington. Sadly, there was no discrete way to get her out there. So I turned to the next best thing, digitally recreating the mountain!

But why stop there?…
