Game Republic suddenly closes down
Suddenly and without much warning, Game Republic has closed its doors. You may remember Game Republic from developing games such as Folklore, two Genji titles and Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom. None of those games were critically acclaimed or best sellers. This has likely contributed to Game Republic’s sudden closure.
Kaos Studios, the developer of Homefront, shut down
Kaos Studios and THQ Digital Warrington won’t be around for much longer. THQ will close both studios soon as it realigns its business. Kaos Studios is the studio behind THQ’s Homefront, a game that was met with less than stellar reviews. THQ Digital Warrington recently developed Red Faction: Battlegrounds which also suffered from negative reviews.
7 Studios shut down by Activision
7 Studios (that’s the studio’s name) is the latest victim of Activision’s severe cutbacks. As we’ve reported yesterday, Activision has put an end to the music games it publishes. Guitar Hero is done, DJ Hero is done and around 500 people have been let go as a result. Yesterday, the Twitter accounts of 7 Studios’ staff members confirmed Activision closed their studio completely.
APB servers are shutting down
The past month has been really rough on Realtime Worlds. Due to crippling financial problems, the company was forced to go into administration. Dozens of employees lost their jobs at once. Some never received payment for the work they did prior to being let go. Although some part of Realtime Worlds was salvaged, APB didn’t make the cut.
THQ to close 5 studios, maybe more
A wildfire of reports have been released announcing that THQ will be closing up to five studios and will be making more cuts later this week, presumably today (November 5, 2008) during the company’s quarterly reports call.
Reasons for the giant blow are linked to dropping share values and internal problems, similar to that of Electronic Arts.
