Free comic Book Day 2011 this weekend
It’s your friendly annual reminder to go out and visit your friendly neighborhood comic shop and pick up some free comics.
Free Comic Book Day is an annual event that takes place the first Saturday in May (May 7, 2011) to help generate – or regenerate – interest in comic books.
A lot of the big comic companies release titles for the day and, depending on your shop, you can often find a few decent indies as well. Some even dump out those quarter boxes simply to get them out of the store. (But please, please, please do not think that every comic in the store is free).
An old friend to return in Mass Effect Evolution’s second issue
Remember our good friend Saren from the original Mass Effect game? Ah, that xenophobic madman brings back so many memories.
Well, if you’ve been missing Saren after thwarting his plans in the Mass Effect, you can witness his return to the series. No, it isn’t the next Mass Effect game. He’s showing up in the next issue of the comic book series Mass Effect: Evolution.
Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty: Black Ops merchandise spotted at Target
I went shopping at Target to restock on the usual items: toiletries, household cleaners, and snacks. I wandered over to the video games section like I always do (because I think of games even while shopping for home necessities!) to check out what they have.
Imagine my surprise to see a bunch of video game merchandise. T-shirts, comic books, figurines? Looks like my favorite bulls-eyed logo store is gearing up for the holidays. Now granted, the video game section wasn’t exactly drowning in merchandise from a bunch of different titles. It centered on two high profile series that recently released some new titles: Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed.

C2E2 2010: Threadless Tees unleashes a new comic book in the form of eight t-shirts
Threadless tees, the maker of some rather zany t-shirts, announced this Saturday (April 17, 2010) at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) that they will be unleashing a series of eight t-shirts that will actually show an entire comic. This will be the first time a comic book has ever been shown through a series of shirts. Each shirt will show a panel, one on the front and one on the back, and the whole comic will be told through all eight shirts. The eighth shirt will reveal the end, naturally…

Interview: Gamertell talks to The Guild star, creator Felicia Day
I recently spoke with Felicia Day, the star and creator of the web series The Guild. Felicia was very nice and seemed to enjoy answering all my questions.
The Guild is a web-based show about six quirky gamers who play an on-line World Of Warcraft-type game together. The six players are all very good at the game but not so good with social interactions, which makes for very funny and tragic adventures.
The third season of the show is now available through CreateSpace DVD on-Demand and will also be available as a full season download through Amazon Video on Demand. The series will be $14.95 and will include bonus content not shown on the web including the Halloween episode; “Do You Want to Date My Avatar” music video; Guild applicant rejects; “How to Build Vork’s Sword”; audio commentary with the cast, creator, director and producer; Axis of Anarchy interviews and gag reels.
Two Vintage comics sell for 1 million each
Art has always been a subjective thing. Some paintings may stir strong feelings on certain people while others squint their eyes and tilt their heads trying to make out what’s on the canvas. While to some these paintings are totally bizarre, others pay amazing sums of money for them.
When we hear of art auctions where hundreds of thousands of dollars, or even millions are offered we tend to think of paintings or sculptures but now there is another form of art that has reached these amazing sums. Once considered cheap entertainment for children, comic books have now reached the status of works of art, and now can compete with Picasso or Van Gogh for real estate in a gallery or the living room of some millionaire.
A couple of vintage comic books were sold for one million USD this week. Oh, and I mean one million each. A copy of Action Comics No. 1 from 1938 – Superman’s first appearance – was sold for one million on Monday, and then on Thursday a copy of Detective Comics No. 27 from 1939 – Batman’s first appearance – was sold for $1,075,500 USD…
Mass Effect: Redemption #1 sells out
Fans just can’t seem to get of Mass Effect, especially with the recent release of Mass Effect 2 around the calendar corner on January 26, 2010.
Dark Horse’s newly released comic book (February 3, 2010) Mass Effect:Redemption #1, sold out on the day it was released.
Fans flooded comic book stores all over the country to pick up a copy of the new comic last Wednesday, resulting in all the copies being sold and leaving some fans lacking. Dark Horse clearly was not expecting such a tremendous amount of sales when it printed and shipped the comic to stores.
To make up for the lack of copies, Dark Horse and EA plan to print more copies of the comic to fill the demand.
Alternate Disc-Tractions: Green Lantern: First Flight Blu-ray (with digital download) review
With the rumors about an upcoming Green Lantern movie that may or may not be delayed yet again, fans of the colorful Corps have to be happy with any on-screen adventure they can get. And this, my fellow poozers, is a pretty decent get.
This animated feature stars Hal Jordan (voiced by Christopher Meloni) and retells an updated version of his super hero origin story as well as Sinestro’s (Victor Garber) final steps to becoming an anti-GL. You’ll see Hal get his ring, a lot of other Green Lanterns from other space sectors, the Guardians of the Universe and Sinestro tossing out streaks of yellow might (along with the Sinestro Corps logo)…
