Nintendo teams up with Robin and Zelda Williams for another commercial
Back when Robin Williams decided to name his daughter Zelda in honor of one of his favorite video game series, I bet he never thought he’d also be making himself and her shoe-ins for Nintendo spokespeople. But, he did. First, the father daughter duo was showing up in the ads for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. They’re back again, only this time they’re promoting The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
The commercial has popped up on YouTube of course, so everyone can see it….
Harrison Ford is helping Sony sell Uncharted 3 in Japan
Well here’s something unexpected. It turns out Sony has turned to Harrison Ford to help sell Uncharted 3. Of course, that doesn’t seem too odd in and of itself. I mean, he’s a big star, it’s an action-adventure game about a guy who’s searching ruins for treasures and Ford is known for playing that kind of role in movies. What’s surprising is there commercials are only being shown in Japan. That’s where the “Huh?” factor comes in.
Ford only has one line in the 15 second spot, “Suge.” Which pretty much means awesome…
Sony celebrates you in new PlayStation ad
If you thought Sony’s Kevin Butler commercials were great, you’re going to love the latest ad for Sony’s Long Live Play campaign. This commerical has lots of cameos from characters of PS3-exclusive games and characters from multiplatform games that got a little boost on Sony’s platform. In this ad entitled “Michael,” the PlayStation brand celebrates its community through two minutes and 13 seconds of awesomeness.
Top Spin 4′s super racy ad shunned by 2K Sports
Top Spin 4 will never make it to the airwaves. It stars tennis superstar Serena Williams and actress Rileah Vanderbilt playing the PS3 version of Top Spin 4 with the PlayStation Move controller. That part of the ad is just fine, but it’s what the actresses are wearing that makes this spot so racy. Prepare to see booty shorts and low cut tops in this recently pulled video.
Valve will make its own Portal 2 TV ads
Most products need advertising to sell as many units as possible. However, not all advertising campaigns are successful. Sometimes ads miss the point of the product it’s representing entirely. That’s why Valve is taking it upon itself to create television advertisements for Portal 2. Valve believes no one can convince people to buy Portal 2 more than Valve.
Get a glimpse of Dante’s Inferno during Super Bowl XLIV
We’d already heard talk of EA buying a 2010 Super Bowl ad spot to show off Dante’s Inferno, but now the company itself has confirmed it with a press release. EA has purchased a 30 second spot to run “Hell Awaits.” Based on the wording in the press release, it sounds like this will be a brand new game trailer.
EA also has announced that the ad will run during the fourth quarter, so if you’re not planning to watch Super Bowl XLIV on February 7, 2010, you still have some idea of when to tune in if you just want to see the ad. Or, if you won’t be near a tv, you can always check online later that day. AOL’s Fanhouse and Spike TV’s site both will have commercials…
Assassin’s Creed 2 extended preview airing during South Park episode
If you’re eagerly anticipating the forthcoming release of Assassin’s Creed 2 and have cable, then you’ll want to watch South Park at 10pm, 9pm Central time on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Well, technically you don’t want to watch South Park, you want to watch the commercials during South Park. There is going to be an extended sneak preview during the show. I’m guessing it’ll probably happen during the last commercial break. That’s when they usually sneak the hyped commercials in.
Assassin’s Creed 2 comes out for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 17, 2009. A version for Windows PCs tentatively scheduled for an early 2010 release. The PSP game Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines will also debut on November 17, 2009…

Important Importables: Hikaru Utada
Everyone in Japan gets involved in video games. It almost seems like it is an honor to have a song included in an upcoming title. When these games are localized for North American releases, it’s a toss-up as to what happens to the original music. Many companies are including the original tracks with games, while some will substitute them with songs in English.
Hikaru Utada is one of the biggest pop singers in Japan. This means that her music has appeared in games, animes and Japanese dramas. She’s also has worked as a voice actress – one of her roles was Pinoko in the anime Black Jack.
Before we get into her relationship to video games and a few of her songs I’d recommend, here’s a brief backstory. Utada was born in New York, New York. She’s fluent in English and Japanese. Her mother’s the Enka singer Fuji Keiko. Her first album was released as Cubic U in both the US and Japan. After that, she focused on a Japanese-only career. She’s sold over 40 million records, and has released eight CDs. She released her English R&B CD, Exodus, in the US in 2004, and is currently working on a second US CD that might be released this year.
