Trion Worlds will send 1 winner and a friend to PAX Prime 2011

Wouldn’t it be cool to go to Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) for free? It may be possible through Trion if you are a member of the RIFT community. Trion Worlds, creators of MMORPG RIFT, want to send one member of the RIFT community and his or her friend to PAX Prime with its Send Me to PAX contest. That means two people could get a free trip Seattle, Washington from August 26-28 2011 so they can attend the convention. Not only that, but also give them VIP treatment during the Trion community party being held Friday night, August 26, at the Hyatt @ Olive 8…

Vote for winner of the top ten finalists in the VGVN badge contest

The finalists have been selected for the Video Game Voters Network badge contest, now it’s up to us to narrow it down to the winner.

The VGVN is a website dedicated to stand up for gamers’ rights. If there are any political or other matters that effect the sale of video games, or effect our ability to choose what we want to play, the VGVN is there to back us up.

Earlier in August 2010, the VGVN asked its members and anyone else with artistic talent to submit a badge design that will be used to promote it’s site. They, from the tons of entries, they narrowed it down to their top 10 favorites and have left it up to use to pick the best one. The one with the most votes will be the winner and receive a $750 Best Buy gift card. The second-place winner will receive a $250 Best Buy gift certificate.

Gamertell Interview: Yuking it up with RiffTrax trio Nelson, Murphy and Corbett

You know those jerks who talk over movies in the theater and you want to pelt them in the head with a frozen beverage? Well, Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame have made a career doing this and have zero head concussions (they’ll admit to).

The boys started a group known as RiffTrax where they take modern movies including Jurassic Park, Twilight and a google of others, making jokes – or “riffs” – during the movie. RiffTrax will be doing a live show Aug 19, 2010, featuring the 1938 cult classic, educational anti-marihuana film Reefer Madness.

Gamertell recently spoke with the three masterminds behind RiffTrax who had a lot to saw about their craft…

Indie Watch: 2Bee Games now IndiePub, launches $100K developer competition

Online development community 2Bee Games has reinvented itself as IndiePub Games.

The new name places more emphasis on its mission as a destination for independent game developers, as well as those who aspire to be (2Bee Games has actually only been around for a year-and-a-half, so the old name wasn’t all that old).

They’ve had a pretty full plate for that year-and-a-half, landing three publishing deals, holding two developer competitions and then the relaunch. A key component of that relaunch is the 3rd Independent Game Developer Competition. The big prize is a cool $100,000 and, perhaps even more important than that, the winning developer will get his or her own publishing deal with Zoo Games. The contest runs through July 3, 2010.
