The Xbox 360 and PS3 can run Crysis this October [Update]

Crysis 2 may have started life on home consoles and the PC, but the original Crysis was different. For a while, Crysis was the game that determined an individual PC’s gaming prowess. A rule of thumb was if your PC could run Crysis, it could run just about anything. In October of this year, Crytek is stripping Crysis of its PC exclusivity and putting the game on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Upgrade Crysis 2 to Limited Edition, get Crysis with EA store pre-order

The EA store has sweetened the pot in terms of pre-orders for Crysis 2. Not only will your pre-order be upgraded at no extra cost to the exclusive Limited Edition, but you’ll also get a copy of the original Crysis.

Electronic Arts earnings report wrap-up

EA’s Q3 earnings report yielded a wide array of news yesterday. In addition to all the big numbers being thrown left and right, a lot of game announcements were made too. EA’s 2011 fiscal year ends March 31, 2011 so these games are expected to be on store shelves by then.

So much for DRM – Spore illegally downloaded over 1.7 million times

I guess EA’s probably feeling stumped right about now, since it turns out Spore was 2008′s most pirated game according to TorrentFreak. I guess this means that the whole DRM that was supposed to protect EA and restrict illegal copies of the game didn’t exactly do its job.

TorrentFreak researched and was reporting on what games are the most popular among the unsavory corners of the internet, and surprise surprise, Spore was number one. It was illegally downloaded over torrents over 1.7 million times. Actually, it seems that EA Games were quite popular among the pirates in 2008, as Sims 2 came in second, Crysis was fourth and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars was fifth. Must have been a successful year for the them…

Dell’s November 2008 catalog features XPS 630 gaming rigs and Nintendo games (!?)

While in a scantastic mood, looking for holiday deals in various mailings, I noticed something rather curious in the November Dell catalog I received in the mail. It includes a page of video games. And not PC games.

Yes, Dell, the company known for making laptops, desktop computers, monitors, printers and PC accessories (at least, that’s what the title bar of the company’s web site reads), has an entire page dedicated to Nintendo games…

HaptX mod lets Novint Falcon control Crysis

A new mod has just been created for the PC game Crysis, by the HaptX Team, and it involves the Novint Falcon controller. The Falcon controller provides force feedback and allows players to really feel every action and attack in a game. The latest mod will make this controller compatible with Crysis, and will be released for download on October 24, 2008.

Apparently the highlight is that the Nano Suit will affect what players feel with the controller. Different modes will make the controller more or less sensitive. The controller will also allow players to feel actions – the ability to feel water resistance when swimming and impacts when falling to the ground are both mentioned in the official press release…

Play Crysis Wars for free starting October 6, 2008

A lot of us gamers might cringe even at the headline, swearing it’s impossible to run anything with the word Crysis in it on our computers. I’m sure there are a good number of hardcore PC gamers out there that can comfortably run Crysis with no problems at all and that is why EA and Crytek are giving players the chance to experience Crysis Wars online for free from October 10, 2008 through October 12, 2008.

Crysis Wars is the online multiplayer component to Crysis Warhead that features four gameplay modes spread out across 21 different maps. Just because we can play this game for free doesn’t mean it’s going to be a…

EA’s new games on display at PAX 08

You’ve got to hand it to EA for creating a presence at PAX. They had not just one but three booths on the floor, plus several others related to them. Here are the games they had on display, some more prominently than others…

Crytek to abandon PC exclusivity

There are three things that make or break any company. The first thing is the product(s) that it can offer. The next thing is the public’s reaction to the product(s). Based on the reaction of the public the next important thing is the margin between legal and illegal receiving of the product(s).

The game studio Crytek has a product that people apparently want in Crysis which also has one of the most advanced graphics engines. However, much like other companies that put out big-name, PC-only releases, it has learned from the problem of piracy. This is because Crysis seems to be pirated more often than it is legally purchased…
