E3 2010: Hands-on Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction

Of all the games to immediately catch my eye as I walked through the door at E3, Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction from developer D3 was probably last on any given list that I might have produced prior to today. I mean, just look at the trailer. It was, however, exactly the case as more »

US PSP owners will get to play God Eater, too

Have you always wished you could play a Monster Hunter style game that was a little more fantasy-oriented? God Eater is here to grant that wish. Well, it isn’t here yet. D3Publisher has just announced it will be releasing the Bandai Namco PSP game in North America. God Eater made its Japanese debut on February 4, 2010, and will be released in the US in Q3 2010.

God Eater is more modern than Monster Hunter. It takes place in a post-apocolyptic world where players are God Eaters that wield special, transforming Jinki weapons. You are one of those God Eaters, and must take down the many monsterous and mutated Aragami to try and make the world a safer place. There are over 100 missions to undertake…

Game company 2009 Christmas cards collection (updated December 24)

Every year I receive a bundle of holiday greetings from various game and entertainment companies usually in the form of a nice postcard signed by the PR staff.

In the past some some companies would include a little gift with their card (Sony) but, more recently, companies are opting for less expensive and more eco-friendly digital cards sent via email. Even in the less paper-y format, they often include characters from the company’s more popular games.

Here’s a collection of Christmas and Holiday cards I’ve received celebrating 2009…

Important Importables: Vampire Knight DS review

Title: Vampire Knight DS (Vampire Kishi DS)Price: $58.90System(s): DSRelease Date: January 29, 2009Publisher (Developer): D3 Publisher (D3 Publisher)ESRB Rating: N/A, Cero B for ages 12 and up.Pros: Lots of mini-games, follows the storyline of the Vampire Knight manga/anime, seven brief “chapters” of the story, full voice acting, interesting simulation aspects and can be quite funny at times.Cons: Controls in some of the mini-games really suck. (No pun intended – really.) CGs featuring eye-less Yuki are incredibly disturbing.Overall Score: 9/10

Vampire Knight is an interesting series from Matsuri Hino that centers around a school where vampires and humans learn side by side. It’s developed a loyal fanbase, and its popularity has resulted in a manga series, which has been translated in English by Viz and appears monthly in Shojo Beat magazine, an anime, drama CDs and light novels.

And now, Vampire Knight has become a video game. Vampire Knight DS, which is also referred to online as Vampire Kishi DS, is a genre-bending, import friendly game that allows players to experience events in the series in a whole new way…

Christmas cards from game companies (2008 edition)

Each year I receive a stack of holiday greeting cards from various game and entertainment companies. Some come with small physical gifts (*cough* Sony *cough*) while others simply highlight a few featured game characters.

This year, more companies have sent electronic cards and none have included a small gift (so far). I’ll take it as both an effort to be a bit more green (as in less paper) and economical (as in no expense except maybe a couple hours to designer, if that).

To check out the full gallery, click the Photo Gallery link or click on the thumbnails below. I’ll be adding more cards as I receive them, either in pulpy paper or digitized format.
