Xbox Live YouTube app pushed out early for dashboard preview testers

For some of them, the wait is over. Anyone who participated in the Xbox Live dashboard preview program can download the YouTube video app right now from the App Marketplace.

Xbox 360 owners are really looking forward to YouTube

Earlier today, we told you about how the Xbox 360 dashboard update has been delayed. Owners of the console are very excited about this update and the new features that will come along with it. A lot of people woke up this morning expecting to turn on their Xbox 360s and be met with an update prompt. As I’m sure you know by now, the update never made it to you. There’s no need to worry because everyone else in the world has the exact same issue. It turns out the highly anticipated Xbox 360 dashboard update has been met with a setback. Major Nelson took to Twitter not too long ago to inform the public the update “has been slightly delayed.” At this time, we don’t know how long the delay will last.

The shiny new Xbox 360 dashboard update is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, December 6. Several video partners are going to provide content for Xbox Live, but several of their video applications won’t be around when the update goes live.

Those who have applied for and been excepted into the Xbox Live Update Preview Program can now begin registering their consoles with Microsoft. If you’re only registering one console, the process to quick and painless. Registering multiple consoles involves doing some steps over again. Regardless of the method you’re going to use, registering your Xbox 360 is much less tedious this time around.

Did you make it into the Xbox Live Preview Program?

In mid-October, Microsoft starting accepting registrations from those who were interested in being among the first to experience the upcoming Xbox 360 dashboard update. As always, Microsoft quickly filled vacancies into the program. It was easier than ever to sign up because Microsoft didn’t require Xbox 360 owners to search for their console IDs and serial numbers. Registration has been closed for a while, but you can find out if you made the cut right now.

Mandatory Xbox Live update does nothing noticeable

The next time you boot up your Xbox 360, you’ll be prompted to download and install a mandatory update that only takes a few minutes to complete. Don’t get excited. This isn’t the big dashboard update that will be coming later in the fall. There are no new features with this update.

Correction: New Xbox 360 dashboard update won’t cause disc read errors

Earlier today, told you about how Microsoft will be replacing Xbox 360s that fall victim to disc errors. It was originally believed that these errors were going to occur in a small number of Xbox 360 consoles once the dashboard update starts to roll out tomorrow. Microsoft has since clarified the issue and stated that the “disc unreadable” and “disc unsupported” errors don’t have anything to do with the upcoming update.

Microsoft replacing Xbox 360s affected by firmware update

The next Xbox 360 dashboard update is scheduled to begin tomorrow (May 19, 2011). Among the new features is the console’s ability to use a new disc format. This new format lets Xbox 360 discs use an extra gigabyte of data. Beta testers were given copies of Halo: Reach in April that was using this new disc format. As with any console update, there is the possibility that everything won’t work out as planned. Microsoft has gotten ahead of this situation and will compensate users whose consoles can’t read discs after installing the update.
