E3 2011: Sony Online Entertainment gets the job done

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) knows how to make great games, and while the days of their domination of gaming through Everquest are long past, they still put forth a good lineup of fun games for E3 2011:

Comic Con 09: A peek at DC Universe

DC Comics fans are surely anxious for the release of Sony Online’s newest MMO, DC Universe, to come out on the PC and PS3. I was able to get a look at this awesome title at Comic Con 2009. The game is nowhere near ready to come out yet but here are some specs of the game that were confirmed to give you an idea what to expect.

DC Universe is a Online MMO where you can create your own superhero and fight along side your favorite heroes from DC comics. You can’t play are real super heroes like Batman or the Flash, mainly because this is a massive online game. If you could, then you would see 800 Green Lantern’s running around.

More on Midway’s Chapter 11 filing, bondholders’ objections

Cash-strapped Midway Games couldn’t fight the financial realities any longer, announcing on Thursday (Feb. 12, 2009) it is filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The move became a foregone conclusion when Sumner Redstone, who had kept the company afloat with his fortune, ran into financial trouble and had to sell his controlling interest for $100,000 to investor Mark Thomas.

That move triggered clauses in Midway’s debt agreements that allowed its noteholders to demand payment now. Midway doesn’t have the money, making it necessary to file for bankruptcy. The company has $240 million but a market valuation of only $14.8 million. I’m no financial wizard, but none of that is good.

A group of Midway bondholders filed an objection to the bankruptcy proceedings on Friday (February13, 2009)…

Midway files for bankruptcy protection

Midway announced in a press release (February 12, 2009) that it has “filed voluntary petitions in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.”

According to the press release, the company’s recent ownership switch led to to “accelerated repurchase obligations” of debt that the company knew it could not repay. The protection will allow the company to “conduct its business operations as usual…”

Midway to perform fatalities on its staff after major title releases

I sure hope Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is a good game.

Actually, I hope it is a great game not only because I consider myself a fan of the series but because it may be the only way in which Midway can pull itself out of the proverbial fire.

The company has been struggling of late to the point where it has had to go through some extreme measures just to complete one of its high-profile games. These struggles have resulted in staff members being handed pink slips in its Austin, TX (USA), studio.

Sadly, it’s looking like more…

Gamertell Mashup: Our favorite E3 2008 announcements

Every E3 there are plenty of announcements and everyone claims their is the biggest, most important and whatevertheheck else. There were fewer hardware announcements than most years with more concentration on games, developing console interfaces and content options.

Not too surprisingly, most of the staff picks for their favorite E3 2008 announcements were somehow related to Microsoft’s Xbox 360. There was, of course, a sole dissenter.

Give it a read and then let us know what your favorite announcement was from E3 2008…
