Ryder White joins the cast of Dead Island in February

dead island ryder white

Okay, so technically Ryder White is already a member of the Dead Island cast right now. But, he isn’t playable. In February 2012, he will be. That’s when Deep Silver will be releasing the Ryder White DLC on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Arcade. So there you go, it all makes sense now. I’m more »

Dead Island is the surprise of September video game sales numbers

Several of the games that charted well in September won’t surprise anyone. EA’s trio of Madden NFL, FIFA and NHL took up three of the top spots. (Madden is released in late August, so its sales appear on September’s charts.) Long awaited sequel Gears of War 3 was up there as well. Deep Silver added a brand new property to the mix with zombie adventure Dead Island.

Dead Island caught in sexist scandal

Dead Island has found itself in the middle of another internet scandal. You may remember that when the game was released earlier this week, it was filled with bugs. The original PC version that was released on Steam was discovered to be a developer build of the game and was quickly switched out. Buried inside the version that wasn’t meant for the public’s eyes was a skill for a female character in the game. That skill was called “Feminist Wh*re.”

Patched version of Dead Island on Steam, Deep Silver to make amends

Well, it’s time to start up Dead Island again. Deep Silver has released the patch on Steam that makes the debug version of Dead Island better. Don’t expect it to be the final patch you were waiting for though, as the update isn’t as smooth as you may have hoped it would be. I mean, it’s great that most of those bugs and glitches will be gone, but the patched game isn’t perfect.

Once you download and install the patch, you’ll see the biggest downside immediately…

Dead Island on Steam is not the final version

Dead Island has some problems. As many reviewers have pointed out, Dead Island contains a lot of bugs on the console versions that don’t really break the game, but hinder the experience enough to be noticeable. The Steam version of Dead Island is even worse. In many ways, the game is just not finished. Whenever a simple keyboard button press triggers odds things such as a third-person view and a camera that roams all over the island, you’ve got an unfinished product.

Dead Island will get a lot of fixes on launch day

Dead Island releases tomorrow (September 6, 2011). The reviews from many outlets have gone up today and the overall reception is somewhere in the middle. The general consensus is that there is fun to be had in Dead Island, but it doesn’t live up to the emotional trailer that got everyone’s attention. There are also a lot of bugs and glitches. Deep Silver was fully aware of Dead Island’s problems when the discs were printed. As a result, a patch will be released Tuesday that fixes 37 known issues.

Deep Silver releasing Atlus’ Catherine in Europe

It turns out North America and Japan won’t be the only regions who get to spend time with Catherine. It turns out Atlus and Deep Silver have decided to work together, which means Deep Silver will bring the PS3 and Xbox 360 game to Europe in French, German, Italian and Spanish. So everybody gets to experience a psychological, sexy, puzzle adventure…

Learn a little more about Dead Island

Dead Island tore up the internet last week. This is a game that was long forgotten, but suddenly came roaring back due to a really well put together trailer. Chances are you’ve seen the Dead Island trailer as it told a short, visual story of a family trying to fight off a zombie horde in a hotel room. What really tugged at the heartstrings was the little girl who had fallen victim to the zombies. We haven’t seen any actual gameplay footage yet, but let’s go over what we do know about Dead Island.

Gamertell Review: Cursed Mountain for Wii

I’ll start off by saying that Deep Silver got the name of this one right. That mountain sure is cursed.

Most of this game’s personality comes from the mountain. It’s oppressive in some ways, but rewarding. As you stand at the bottom and look up at the peaks, you can’t help but feel like you’re not getting anywhere. But as you make your way up and look back down at the villages you’ve been through, you’ll know you’ve accomplished something. You’ll have to develop this connection with the mountain because, quite often, that’s all there is.

The strange DS application parade continues with Russell Grant’s Astrology

It looks like Cesar Millan’s Dog Whisperer, My Stop Smoking Coach with Allen Carr and Driver’s Ed Portable are going to have some company in the DS’s “Huh?” section. At least, in Europe it will – Deep Silver is releasing the £19.99 budget priced Russell Grant’s Astrology on the DS in the second quarter of 2009.

As you can tell from the title, Russell Grant’s Astrology is an astrology game, where you can get horoscope information, peeks into the future, advice and determine how well they will interact with other people, based on their birth signs and such. It also is going to have some minigames tossed in, like some kind of puzzle and a version of Sudoku that uses symbols.

I had no idea who Russell Grant was, so I decided to Google him…
