Magicka goes to Vietnam on April 12, 2011

It seems like nearly every Diablo clone is set in some version of fantasy pseudo-Europe. Thus it was when I saw there was a Magicka: Vietnam , a downloadable expansion to Magicka, coming out.

I first thought, “Neat, they’re going to put the clone in a different setting for a change.” Magicka: Vietnam is set in Vietnam, alright, but more like the Vietnam of the ’60s (i.e., of the US war era), with quests that require rescuing POWs while blasting away the Goblin-Cong and such.

Odd top ten co-op game list draws criticism

Gameranx recently released its Top 10 list for best co-op games, to mostly jeers in the comments.

As it happens, I’ve played many of these titles and I tend to agree with the comments and not so much with the list…

Blizzcon 2011 will be held October 21 – 22, 2011

Diablo, StarCraft and World of Warcraft better save the dates October 21-22, 2011. Blizzard’s going to be holding the sixth ever Blizzcon then. As usual, Blizzcon 2011 will be held in Anaheim, California at the Anaheim Convention Centre…

Opinion: Fun is ruining my games

So I have a new game, Torchlight, a role-playing game (RPG) in the tradition of Diablo. I’ve been at it a few hours, made level 30, and still haven’t used a healing potion. The monsters, hordes of them, all die with one hit.

This is a perfectly good game, but I’m bored.

Have I turned into a gaming god without knowing it? It would seem so, since I’m playing at the ‘average’ skill level. I guess I could crank the difficulty up to hardcore, but why is the baseline so low…

BlizzCon 2010 coming to Anaheim October 22-23, 2010

BlizzCon, the celebration of all Blizzard’s gaming properties and the diehard communities that love them, is coming to the Anaheim Convention Center October 22-23, 2010.

In addition to finding out the latest developments in the Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo universes, the fifth BlizzCon gaming convention offers contests, discussion panels with Blizzard developers and of course, hands-on play time with the games.

Blizzard’s Worldwide Invitational heading to Europe in June 2008

After already touring across the United States and Asia, Blizzard’s Worldwide Invitational is making its way to Europe. This will be the fourth such Invitational, which will take place at Porte De Versailles Exposition Center in Paris, France, June 28-29, 2008.

Fans at this year’s event will get the chance to rub shoulders with Blizzard’s key artist, writers, developers and masterminds behind such epic titles as World of Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo. Attendees will also be able to take part in a silent auction while listening to musical performances of many classic Blizzard tracks.

The highlight of the two-day event will no doubt be the…
