Peter Moore believes Battlefield 3 stole Modern Warfare 3 market share

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 kept breaking industry records this Fall, selling 6.5 million units in 24 hours.

Despite Activision’s continued success with the franchise, EA COO Peter Moore, in an interview with Industry Gamers, pointed to BF3′s 5 million sold as evidence that the game is gaining ground. Moore said he felt the two games have both done a lot to grow the industry and that if BF3 hasn’t stolen market share, then it has added five million new first-person shooter fanatics.

He doesn’t address the possibility that at least some gamers purchased both high-profile games.

DICE punishes hundreds of Battlefield 3 glitchers

It didn’t take long for Battlefield 3 players to stumble onto an annoying glitch that some used to cheat the system. A trick with the Engineer’s repair tool allowed players to gain in excess of 100,000 experience points per match, leveling up way too fast.

On its official Twitter feed, developer DICE announced its swift and righteous use of the banhammer. DICE banned hundreds of accounts and stat-wiped many others. The bans are across all platforms. The developer is asking for players’ help in keeping a balanced community. If you see cheating or glitching, send a direct message to the developers along with a screenshot of the Battle Log report.

EA thinks it sold 5 million copies of Battlefield 3

Electronic Arts is very pleased with the performance of Battlefield 3. Today, the publisher announced Battlefield 3 has sold five million units around the world. This number is based on EA’s “internal estimates”, so BF3 may have sold more or less than that. EA’s estimates have also led the company to believe BF3 is now the fastest selling game in the company’s history.

EA hopes to mend its broken promise with your money

PS3 owners have been spending so much time engaging the enemy in Battlefield 3 multiplayer, some have forgotten about a little promise EA made back in June. In an effort to step up sales of Battlefield 3 on PS3, EA said it would include a voucher to download Battlefield 1943. Of course if you purchased BF3 on PS3, that voucher is nowhere to be found. That’s because EA decided to squash the offer ahead of time. But don’t worry, EA has the perfect consolation.

Battlefield 3′s Xbox 360 two-disc mystery solved

Gamertell previously reported on rumors that the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 3 would ship with two discs, while the PS3 only had one. In an interview with Gamerzines, Battlefield 3 executive producer Patrick Bach explained the purpose for the mysterious second disc.

PS3 is first in line for Battlefield 3 DLC

DICE, the developers of Battlefield 3, kicked off this morning with some pleasant news for PS3 owners. The PS3 will be the first platform to get Battlefield 3 expansions. Those who plan on getting BF3 on PC or Xbox 360 need not fret because the exclusivity window is quite small. It’ll only last one week which is a lot shorter than the exclusivity window Call of Duty expansions get on Xbox 360.

Rumor: Battlefield 3′s Xbox 360 version will contain two discs

Gematsu is reporting that a Japanese game poster confirms a two-disc Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 3. This has led to speculation that one disc will contain the single-player campaign while the other would house multiplayer. The PS3 version appears, as one would expect, on a single Blu-ray disc. Rumors place the game at 15 gigabytes, around 6 gigabytes more than a 360 disc holds. Games such as L. A. Noire came on multiple discs as well, so this isn’t new territory for 360 owners.

Need for Speed: The Run revealed, release set for November 15

We are getting hammered with Need for Speed games lately. Last year NFS Hot Pursuit satisfied our need for a Burnout-like racing game, Shift 2: Unleashed was released about a month ago and now NFS: The Run will grace our North American consoles on November 15, 2011. Europe has to wait until November 17. It will be released for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii and 3DS.

EA says no to Mirror’s Edge 2?

Those who were looking forward to a sequel to 2008′s parkour-flavored game Mirror’s Edge will be disappointed, as EA has reportedly rejected a pitch for Mirror’s Edge 2.

Yes, there is going to be a collector’s edition of the game, and that is what it is called. Really catches your attention.
