The EA store has sweetened the pot in terms of pre-orders for Crysis 2. Not only will your pre-order be upgraded at no extra cost to the exclusive Limited Edition, but you’ll also get a copy of the original Crysis.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a creative amalgam of pretty much everything cool. It takes a quirky manga story, features scads of video game style fight scenes and special effects and, with a dash of eclectic European movie sensibilities (I’d say French films but would not want to offend the director), creating a funky fun film about young love.

After seeing the movie and watching several hours of the extra features, I’m now a Scott Pilgrim fan (and you will be, too, assuming you are not already, of course)…

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that movie Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, based on the manga series and produced with strong video game influences, will be available November 9, 2010.

The film will be avaialble in the individual versions or as a Combo pack that includes the Blu-ray disc, DVD disc and digital download.

The Blu-ray version will also include a free bonus movie that can be streamed, for a limited time, via DB-Live or to any internet enabled player, Smartphone or iPad through the Pocket Blu app.

The action-comedy film features Michael Cera (Juno, Superbad) as Scott Pilgrim, a garage band musician who has to face the seven “evil exes” of his girlfriend-to-be, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). And, of course, they all have super powers.

Based on the Prince of Persia video game series, the Prince of Persia The Sands of Time focuses on acrobatic Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal), the adopted “Prince” who is part of an invasion on a holy city when he happens to acquire a magical dagger, the Dagger of Time. It is a sacred object that can rewind time and is, o course, protected by sexy princess Tamania (Gemma Arterton) who spends much of the movie using trickery and sexual guile to otherwise reclaim the dagger.

The film certainly has respectable scope and vision and some decent acting yet sometimes becomes a bit awkward in terms of dialog and disjointed plot elements…

This year, Hallmark’s main video game themed ornament is Prince Dastan from Disney’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Measuring 4 in. tall and retailing for $14.95 (ornament # QXD2152), it features the likeness of a leaping Jake Gyllenhaal as “The Prince.” The film is also being released on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download September 14, 2010.

The other ornament, which I have yet to see in a store, is the Tron Lightcycle ornament (#QXD1153), also based on a upcoming Disney film (Tron: Legacy, December 17, 2010). This one is priced $16.95, is 4.5 in. wide and lights up (so it requires batteries, which are often included in Hallmark’s fancier ornaments). This definitely looks to be the more impressive of this year’s two game-related ornaments.

Valve will soon release The Sacrifice, a new expansion compatible with both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. It fills in the storyline gaps between the games that lead to The Passing, the expansion in which the two game casts meet each other. It will also allow players to choose which of the original game’s survivors doesn’t get to be called a “survivor” anymore.

EA Sports’ denials about NBA Jam coming only to the Nintendo Wii never really made any sense. Now EA’s diabolical master plan has been revealed. NBA Jam will be available to PS3 and Xbox 360 owners, provided they pony up the cash for NBA Elite 11. EA’s latest basketball sim will come with a code allowing a download of the arcade b-baller.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and Jerry Bruckheimer Films have announced the home video release details for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina and Gemma Arterton.

It will be available September 14, 2010, on DVD (retail price of $29.99), Blu-ray ($39.99) and as a digital download (undisclosed). There will also be a three-disc Blu-ray Combo Pack ($44.99) that includes…

If you’re itching to get Mafia II and want to save yourself a drive to the store, have no fear. The game will be available as a digital download and come in two versions: Standard and Digital Deluxe Edition. If you pre-order either version, you’ll get a free digital copy of the first Mafia game. This is in addition to the bonus content provided by the digital retailers.

If you plan on buying a digital copy of StarCraft II, you can save yourself time by downloading the client right now, long before the game’s July 27, 2010 release date. This saves you precious hours of downloading about seven gigs’ worth of data, precious hours you could instead spend kicking someone’s ass. Or getting your ass kicked.
