Black Rock Studio closes down

The show is over for the Disney Interactive Studios-owned Black Rock Studio. DIS confirmed that Black Rock Studio will be closing down. Black Rock Studio went though a round of layoffs in May that affected around 100 jobs. Only 40 jobs were spared at that time.

Disney lets go hundreds of employees from its gaming division

Massive layoffs have hit game developers at Disney Interactive. Last week, Disney closed Propaganda Games who were responsible for Tron: Evolution and the cancelled title Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned. Yesterday, Disney continued its round of layoffs by letting go nearly 350 employees.

Spoiler Alert: Epic Mickey

There are times where a game is released where you really want to know what happened but you either can’t or don’t want to buy or play it. To help you out, Gamertell offers Spoiler Alert. We’ll play the games and tell you what happened so you don’t have to spend, or waste, your time on it. This week, we’re looking at Epic Mickey, the Wii action game from Disney Interactive. Prepare to be spoiled…

Gamertell Review: Disney Epic Mickey for Wii

One of the most highly anticipated games this holiday season is Epic Mickey, an experimental and dark Disney game conceived by Warren Spector and created by Junction Point Studios. Mickey is placed into a dark and dilapidated world of forgotten Disney characters, one that he helped ruin, and must use the power of paint to create or thinner to destroy to survive and hopefully find a way return to the real world. The result is an ambitious game plagued by a near-uncontrollable camera…

Split Second DLC speeding its way to you

On its Split/Second Facebook page, developer Black Rock Studios said four packs of downloadable content are coming by the end of September. Three of the packs for the arcade-style racer will include new cars, while the pack scheduled for September will have a whole new play environment.

Split/Second crashing onto PSP this holiday

Split/Second takes the destructible racing world from its high definition console counterpart and stuffs it into the PSP and PSPgo’s screen. Though most of what you can expect has already been included in the console version, the PSP port has some tricks all its own. You’ll be able to participate in races for up to four people through a local ad-hoc connection. It will also include a brand new track and challenges unique to the PSP.

What Happened To: Turok 2 for the Xbox 360 and PS3

Turok is one of those game franchises that can either be remembered with nostalgic glee (at least in terms of the first two games for the Nintendo 64) or relative indifference (that covers pretty much everything up until the re-envisioned continuation of the franchise for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC). When the last game more »

E3 2010: Preview of Disney Interactive Studios’ Epic Mickey

Disney Interactive Studios gave a lot of booth time to Epic Mickey at E3 2010.

Available Fall 2010 for Wii, Epic Mickey will include more than 60 Disney animated characters and feature a brush-wielding Mickey Mouse.

With the power of paint and paint thinner, a 1920s-to-1930s-era Mikey is able to erase and redraw the game’s environment (*cough* Shaun White Skateboarding *cough*) in this action-platformer-RPG hybrid designed by Warren Spector (and developed by Junction Point Studios).

Split/Second PS3 install is 3.7GB, not 7GB

Yesterday we ran a story stating the PS3 version of Split/Second required a mandatory install of 7GB. It would have set a record for largest game data installation the PS3 has ever seen. We were shocked, the public was shocked but now we know the truth.

Disney racer Split/Second dated for US, renamed for Europe

One of the sleeper titles Gamertell encountered at Consumer Electronics Show 2010 was arcade style racer Split Second. The destructible environments aren’t just part of the course, they alter the course.
