10 million DOFUSes worldwide
The free-to-play, mmorpg DOFUS Online has reached a milestone not many online games reach – it now has over 10 million players worldwide. Of the 10 million, ANKAMA claims over 1.5 million subscribe so they can have full access to all of the Flash game’s regions and features. Not bad, considering this feat was accomplished in only four years. DOFUS was originally released in September, 2004.
Wakfu closed beta begins
Ankama’s DOFUS sequel, Wakfu is almost complete. Like DOFUS, Wakfu is also a massive multiplayer online rpg (MMORPG) with tactical, turn-based battles. The closed beta phase of Wakfu has just begun, with special beta keys to participate being given away in contests. People can also sign up to be informed when the open beta period begins. The full version of the game is scheduled to be released before the end of 2008.
Wakfu is set 1,000 years after all of the events in DOFUS, and an ogre has collected all six Dofus eggs and unintentionally flooded Amakna with his tears. Players will be responsible for maintaining the world of Amakna and protecting it, a daunting task since Wakfu will have no NPCs.

Carry DOFUS in your pocket
The MMORPG (massive multiplayer online rpg) DOFUS is going to be heading to cell phones as DOFUSPocket. The game will be officially released on cell phones in June, 2008, but beta testing is going on at the moment. Rather than functioning as an actual game, it will instead be a supplement to the online game.
The thing is, a lot of information is still unavailable. The official press release talks about “different features” that will gradually be available to users, but doesn’t really add many specifics. Some possibilities for DOFUSPocket mentioned include the ability to check on information concerning characters, “user to user” interaction, in-game event notifications and perhaps even videos or the implementation of using 2D barcodes to affect gameplay.
