Dragon Quest X will only be playable on the Wii and Wii U
Well, we now know all the basics about Dragon Quest X. Honestly, part of it is probably what people were expecting, and the other part will probably leave people a little stumped. But let’s just jump right in. In 2012, all Japanese Wii owners will have access to Dragon Quest X: Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online. Dragon Quest X: Five Races Awaken Online, if you want to be technical. Sometime after that, a slightly prettier version will be released for the Wii U. Yes, it’s going to be available on both systems, and you’ll be able to play with anyone has a copy of the game regardless of what they’re playing it on.
As the title suggests, online activities will be a huge factor in Dragon Quest X…
Nintendo taking Dragon Quest IX on tour
Nintendo is going all out for Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. No wonder Square Enix allowed it to publish it in North America. It is getting platinum treatment. In order to get people hyped up about the DS game and give game owners a reason to use Tag Mode, Dragon Quest IX is going on tour…

Gamertell Review: Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies for DS
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies was a phenomenon in Japan. It received a perfect score in Famitsu, it set a Guinness World Record and the week it was released Nintendo experienced a DSi sales explosion in Japan. That’s not even taking into account how long it stayed on video game sales charts in Japan, or how many copies were sold. Now, it’s coming to North America. Surprisingly, Nintendo is taking the reins from Square Enix, who created Dragon Quest IX and published it in Japan.
But all that means nothing until you actually play Dragon Quest IX. It’s only by playing that you understand why so many people have taken to the game and invested so much time in it.
The game begins with players making an avatar. This avatar is revealed to be a Celestian, a denizen of the Observatory who guards over mortals on the Earth below and assists them to obtain benevolessence for Yggdrisal, the world tree. You’ve just been made the guardian of your own little town, Angel Falls, replacing your mentor Aquilla. Every Celestrian is waiting for the day when fyggs bloom on Yggdrisal, meaning the time has come for them to join the Almighty and mortals no longer need their protection…
E3 2010: Hands-on with Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies
Nintendo had lots of awesome games at its E3 2010 booth, one of them the July 11, 2010 release Dragon Quest IX. If you happened by the Nintendo booth, like I did, you could find three DS units set up with the game, begging to be played.
The demo begins with a pre-created party in a fairly nondescript town. It looks beautiful, and you get to look around a 3D environment with customized characters. The demo scenario placed me in a town, where a billboard proclaimed that a knight that was causing trouble for the kingdom, and the king was asking for assistance. What a coincidence! My character just happened to be an adventurer traveling with friends…
Dragon Quest IX makes US and European debut in July
Good news DS owners who’ve been waiting for Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies! Nintendo is shooting for an almost-simultaneous release date for the US and Europe. Almost, because it’s incredibly close. The US gets it first, on July 11, 2010. Europeans shouldn’t feel too left out though, as they’ll be playing it 12 days later on July 23, 2010.
Dragon Quest IX is the latest entry in the series and is a DS exclusive. While it’s a Square Enix game, developed by Level-5, Nintendo is publishing it in North America, Europe and Australia.
Speaking of Australia, the country still hasn’t received a set release date for Dragon Quest IX. The game still has a tentative Q4 2010 release date there. It’s odd, but hopefully there’ll be a release update for that region soon.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is unique because of its customization and multiplayer options…
Important Importables: Video game drinks
Video game publishers often team up with other companies for promotions to highlight their newest games, a practice that’s seen throughout the world. However, games and drink partnerships are much more common in Japan. They’re also more diverse.
Game and drink promotions in North America most often amount to a soda company, like Mountain Dew, teaming up with a developer. In Japan, coffee, energy health drinks and soda companies all work with publishers to get specialized products out there.
This week, Important Importables is taking a look at some of the more notable Japanese video game and drink collaborations…
Square Enix trademarks Dragon Quest IX in Europe
While Square Enix hasn’t officially announced a worldwide release date for the DS game Dragon Quest IX, it’s probably coming soon. Square Enix just trademarked the game’s name in Europe. It is going to be officially known, at least in Europe, as Dragon Quest IX: Sentinel of the Starry Skies.
It’s a pretty good fit. In Japanese it was Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito, which losely translates into Dragon Quest IX: Defenders of Starry Sky. So Sentinel of the Starry Skies works. Square Enix didn’t just translate the title into English and trademark it though, it also translated and trademarked it in French, German, Italian and Spanish as well.
It isn’t unheard of that Square Enix did the trademarking in Europe first. In the last few years, it seems like the company has been shooting for near simultaneous releases of its games in North America and Europe…
Gamertell Review: Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride for DS
I know I should be thinking of Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride as a remake, but it’s impossible. The original game was never released outside of Japan, and neither was the PS2 remake. So instead of feeling like some rehash, it comes across as an entirely new, and wonderful, property.
The most striking part of Dragon Quest V is how realistic it is. Well, you know, for a fantasy game set in a medieval world populated with monsters and other mystical creatures. Instead of having some young kid set out to save the world in one grand adventure, you’re instead looking at the life of a warrior over a substantial period of time. You grow attached to your character, his family and their struggles – a rarity in games.
Players begin Dragon Quest V as…
Dragon Quest V coming to North America in February 2009
Siliconera is reporting that the next installment of the Dragon Quest/Warrior franchise is on its way to North American shores.
Titled Dragon Quest V: Hand in the Heavenly Bride, the game will be ported to the Nintendo DS like the series’ last release, Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen, and has the release date of February 17, 2009.
The game was earlier ported to DSes in Japan only but now…
