Review: Space Channel 5 Part 2 for PS3
Sometimes you feel like an epic, dramatic, “save the world” adventure, and sometimes you don’t. Space Channel 5 Part 2 fits quite comfortably in the “don’t” section. It’s goofy, bright, colorful and campy, with a rather ridiculous plot. None of that matters though, because it’s all just so much fun, while still being a rather challenging affair. So buckle up and prepare to blast some “Mexican Flyer” while practicing your “chus” and “heys!”
Important Importables: Pocketstation and VMU
We’re now in the generation of hard drives, SD cards and even the occasional memory stick when it comes to backing up game saves. It almost makes it hard to believe that a few years ago the standard method was memory cards, plastic blocks gamers would shove into consoles or controllers so they could save their game progress. At the time, memory cards were the thing. They offered a sense of freedom gamers hadn’t had before, allowing them to take their game progress on the go with them, not bound by on-cartridge memory or those loathed passwords.
Some companies decided that maybe they should take memory cards a step further. Not only have these devices hold onto our valuable game data, but allow them to be game playing devices as well. The results were Sony’s PocketStation for the PlayStation and Sega’s Visual Memory Unit for the Dreamcast. Sony’s PocketStation crashed and burned, while the VMU could be helpful, but never really reached the iconic status Sega hoped for. This week, let’s learn a little more about both of them…
Sega Dreamcast Collection lineup is lackluster
That Dreamcast game collection you’ve been dreaming about isn’t going to be as sweet as you thought. You remember the Sega Dreamcast Collection, right? It was revealed in a mysterious leak late last year and people have been eagerly speculating as to what could be contained in this collection. Well, now we know. On February 22, 2011, you can get enhanced versions of Sonic Adventure, Space Channel 5 Part 2, Crazy Taxi and Sega Bass Fishing on a disc…
Dreamcast Collection isn’t some crazy dream
The Dreamcast Collection is real! Sega’s Alan Pritchard, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing was interviewed by Game Informer in its January 2011 issue, and he said that it was happening. Apparently, Sega recognizes that people still love the Dreamcast after all these years, and is going to rerelease the games on the PS3 and Xbox 360 so a wider audience can appreciate them. Unfortunately, the interview doesn’t offer any details about when it will be released or what will be in it. I think it’s just enough to know that it’s on the way…
Save the ChuChus from the KapuKapus on your iPhone or iPad in ChuChu Rocket!
ChuChu Rocket! is making a comeback. Well, again, since I guess there was that Game Boy Advance port in 2001. But that was nine years ago, so the point is still valid. ChuChu Rocket! and ChuChu Rocket! HD will get iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad owners obsessed with saving little white and blue mice all over again.
The ChuChus (mice) are constantly being chased by KapuKapus (cats)…
Downloadable Sonic Adventure goes DX with DLC
Sonic Adventure is busting out. The game’s not only playable at Sega’s TGS 2010 booth, it’s also playable on North American Xbox 360s! It’s just arrived on Xbox Live Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). And, surprisingly, it’s accompanied by launch day DLC…
Sega bringing Dreamcast games to PSN and Xbox Live
If you own a PS3 or Xbox 360, you’re going to get to play Dreamcast games this year. Sega has announced digital downloads of Dreamcast games to commemorate the Dreamcast’s 11th birthday. So sometime before the end of 2010, perhaps around September or November, slightly enhanced versions of the classic Dreamcast games you loved will be available once again.
The first two downloadable Dreamcast games will be Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure…
Important Importables: 10 great video games based on anime series
When animated series are successful enough, video game developers and publishers will try to cash in and create games that fans of the series will enjoy. While many of these games can fall under the shovelware umbrella, a few attempts stand out as truly entertaining and worthwhile endeavors.

A few of them may seem incredibly familiar, as they even received worldwide releases. Rest assured though, the following 10 games and series are so good, you’ll enjoy them even if you’ve never even heard of the animes they’re based on.

Important Importables Review: Hanagumi Taisen Columns 2 for Dreamcast
Hanagumi Taisen Columns 2 is a strange amalgamation of a puzzle-game and simulation. The best way to approach it is to compare it to Super Puzzle Fighter II, a game that did make it outside of Japan. Like Super Puzzle Fighter II, Hanagumi Taisen Columns 2 takes popular characters from Sega’s Sakura Taisen and Sakura Taisen 2 series and has them battling using Columns puzzles. Unlike Super Puzzle Fighter II, Hanagumi Taisen Columns 2 has simulation elements in the Arcade and Story modes and occasional challenges that require you to solve puzzles rather than defeat an opponent…
