Japan Import: Super Mario 25th Anniversary DSi LL arrives in October
Japan’s getting another new DSi LL (XL) on October 28, 2010. And no, we won’t be getting it. It’s a ¥18,000 (~$215) special unit designed specifically for the 25th anniversary of the Super Mario series. Which is why it’s official name is the Super Mario 25th Anniversary DSi LL.
The casing is what sets this DSi apart. It’s all red, with black lining along the edges. The top also proudly proclaims “Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary” under the camera, with Super Mushroom, Fire Flower and Starman icons above it. It also comes with…
Europe gets blue, yellow and green DSi XLs
Europe is getting new DSi XL colors. These colors that have already appeared in other regions, but they’re new to Europe so yay for them. On October 8, 2010, buyers will be able to choose from dark brown, burgundy, blue, yellow and green DSi XL units. The price remains the same though, £159.99 (~$246)…
Gamertell Review: Nintendo’s DSi XL handheld game system
With the latest iteration of the DSi handheld game system, we get a bit of a departure from Nintendo’s usual trend to go smaller. Instead, we get an up-sized system that you’d think is simply the same as its predecessor, only bigger and in a different color shell.
For the most part, yes.
Aside from the larger dual screens, there are a few small physical tweaks that make this a little more than a simple scaled-up remake.
Japan Import: Love Plus + DSi XL bundle announced
Konami is once again going to be exploiting all of the Love Plus junkies in Japan. You remember Love Plus, the DS real-time dating simulation game that’s inspired unsettling devotion among fans. One guy even went so far as to marry his copy of the game, while others bought multiple copies of Love Plus to obtain all the different preorder items. First, Konami announced an updated edition of Love Plus, called Love Plus +, to snatch more money away from these people. Now, it’s announced Love Plus + DSi XL bundles.
More accurately, they should be called DSi LL bundles, since that’s what the latest version of the DSi is called in Japan. And the word bundles is plural because there isn’t going to just be one. There are going to be three Love Plus + DSi LL bundles, each with a DSi LL that has one of the game’s three girls on the front. This means Love Plus fans can choose a system with their favorite character on it and get a Manaka Deluxe, Nene Deluxe or Rinko Deluxe DSi LL…
DSi LL had a better debut in Japan than the PSPgo
It looks like Nintendo just can’t lose. Famitsu reported Enterbrain’s DSi LL sales figures for its first two days in stores today. 103,524 DSi LLs were sold between November 21-22, 2009, the systems first two days in Japan. In case you’re scratching your head, the DSi XL is billed as the DSi LL in Japan.
As Andriasang points out, the DSi LL launch wasn’t as impressive as the DSi launch. 170,770 DSis were sold in its first two days on sale in Japan. So the DSi was almost twice as popular. Still, 103,524 units is a pretty respectable number.
As you may recall, Enterbrain reported that 28,725 PSPgos were sold the day the system launched in Japan…
Large-screen DSi LL not a rumor, headed to Japan and Europe (updated)
The DSi has only been available for roughly a year in Japan, and already Nintendo’s prepared the next incarnation. The DSi LL has been confirmed for a November 21, 2009 release in Japan and a Q1 2010 release in Europe. If you import a Japanese one, it’ll cost you ¥20,000/$220. A European price point hasn’t been announced yet. A North American release hasn’t been announced, but seems pretty likely, given the system’s success.
Don’t look to the DSi LL expecting any special, new features. It’s essentially a DSi, only slightly bigger due to the inclusion of two 4.2 inch screens, as opposed to the two 3.25 inch screens built into a normal DSi, it is bigger. It also comes with more styluses than a typical DSi – it comes with the standard stylus that fits into the DSi and a larger stylus that looks exactly like a ball point pen. It’ll also be available in three colors, the standard white and two new ones – brown and burgundy.
It should be hitting you now, this DSi incarnation is designed especially for older gamers. The color schemes, the larger screens that make it easier to see and read what’s happening in the game, the inclusion of the larger stylus…
