I bet you stopped over at Gamertell today, expecting to see the usual Nintendo Downloads update greeting you. Well, things have changed a little. It turns out Nintendo is shifting the day on which it is updating all of its digital shops, due to the 3DS.

See, Nintendo had already confirmed that the 3DS eShop would always update on Thursdays…

Nintendo is under a bit of pressure with the DSi. The system has new features, and users are expecting the company to have games and programs which immediately make use of those features.

In an attempt to step up to the plate, Nintendo released WarioWare: Snapped! in the DSi Shop. The game makes use of one of the system’s new cameras, allowing people to play the game using their heads and hands. It’s a noble effort, but unfortunately it doesn’t quite pan out the way you’d expect.

Like in all WarioWare games, WarioWare: Snapped! starts with Wario attempting to make an obscene amount of money as quickly as possible. Like before, he’s joined by some friends to help his dream come true. This time, Mona, Jimmy and Kat & Ana come to help Wario with his four roller coasters.

Each character’s coaster has five camera sensitive games. Before you can play, you have to calibrate the game/camera by striking poses. Calibrating Kat & Ana’s games require both players to pose…

I adore my DS lite, content with its capabilities and GBA slot. One of my friends, though also quite happy with his handheld, decided that the world might possibly end if he didn’t have a DSi in his hands on launch day. This meant that the two of us set out to a GameStop midnight launch event so he could claim his precious.

Once the treasured item was acquired, it was time to investigate the DSi Shop and see if there was anything worth spending the 1,000 ($10) free DSi points on.

There were only two items – Art Style: Aquia and WarioWare: Snapped!, each costing 500 points.

Technically, you could say there were three. The DSi Browser is quite nice and much better than the original DS Browser, and actually would have been worth spending DSi points on. Luckily, it’s a free download, so that isn’t necessary. But it is good enough to be worth actual points.

Online retailers have loose lips. If you’re looking for a release window or early box art, sites like Amazon are a good place to check for early information. This time around, it’s Target that may have spoiled the surprise. A NeoGAF user pointed out that the site’s listings for the DSi units mention that buyers will receive 1,000 DSi points ($10) the first time they log into the Nintendo DSi Shop.

The idea of getting free DSi points with the system isn’t new, so we shouldn’t be all that shocked. After all, Joystiq points out that all Japanese DSis come with 1,000 free DSi points as well. I guess Nintendo wants to encourage people to visit the DSi Shop.

This promotion won’t be a Target exclusive deal. At the end of the product description on Target’s site, it mentions that the free 1,000 DSi points is a “limited time offer…”
