Open Letter: Hey, Nintendo, reveal Zelda Wii already, will ya?!

I’ve had it.

I’ve had it with the smoke and mirrors, subtle hints and deception.

Just announce the next Legend of Zelda Wii game already!

It’s not that I‘m interested in it. I’m still playing my way through The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I’m sick of the teasing, hinting and constant reports on any trivial detail related to it…

E3 2009: Best of the handhelds (PSP & DS)

E3 2009 has come and gone in a fluster of press conferences, announcements and releases. Now’s a good time to sit back and regroup, taking time to process the new wealth of information we possess.

The handheld consoles did particularly well this year. The DS had quite a few interesting game announcements that surely delighted the system’s fans. The PSP also had quite a few big name game announcements, as well as a whole new model debut.

Join Gamertell as we revisit what we felt were some of the biggest handheld E3 announcements…

E3 2009: Obscure: The Aftermath controls designed with PSPgo in mind

Playlogic Entertainment used E3 2009 to assure potential PSP go users that the company had Sony’s new system in mind while creating Obscure: The Aftermath. The game is the portable port of Obscure II/Obscure: The Aftermath, which originally appeared on the PC, PS2 and Wii, and the sequel to Obscure, which was a PC, PS2 and Xbox 360 game.

First of all, Obscure: The Aftermath will be released both on UMD and as a digital download from the PlayStation Store when the game comes out September 8, 2009. Second, Playlogic has confirmed that the developers kept in mind the PSP go controls and capabilities when creating the game. Perhaps this means the control scheme was tweaked to take into account the smaller system.

Obscure: The Aftermath is a horror game where six college students, who coincidentally happen to be survivors of the terrifying incident that took place in the original Obscure

E3 2009: Stage a DanceDanceRevolution on every console soon

E3 2009 allowed Konami to continue to contribute to the active game genre with the anouncement of more DanceDanceRevolution games. There will be four, count them four, DDR games on the way, for the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. It will also mark the release of the first PS3 DDR.

All of the DanceDanceRevolution games are being mentioned as Fall 2009 releases, and each game will have 30 popular, master artist tracks and 20 original Bemani songs. So 50 songs will be available right away. Konami’s also going to be emphasizing the healthy side of the game, with Workout Modes that include calorie counters…

E3 2009: Miyamoto shows concept art for Wii Legend of Zelda

During a Nintendo E3 2009 round table discussion, the next Legend of Zelda Wii game came up. While Nintendo was very hush hush on the potential new game, Shigeru Miyamoto did have one little tidbit to tease the press with – the concept art image on the right.

The image doesn’t offer a new subtitle or name, other than the familiar The Legend of Zelda logo. There’s a silver female figure, possibly some sort of statue, in the center of the image. A mature Link is standing behind her, in a position that looks like he is shielding her (or it) from something. The background suggests the two are in a cave of some sort.

Destructoid is reporting that Miyamoto stated the next Legend of Zelda Wii game will work with Wii Motion Plus, may be a Wii Motion Plus exclusive game like Red Steel 2 and will likely officially debut at E3 2010…

E3 2009: House M.D. and Murder, She Wrote are getting virtual counterparts

Legacy Interactive recently created some casual games based on classic teen movies Clueless, Pretty in Pink and Mean Girls. Now, the company has announced at E3 2009 that it is teaming up with Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group to create games based on TV series. Get ready for House M.D. for the PC and DS and Murder, She Wrote for the PC. Release dates aren’t available for either game.

The House M.D. game will allow players to solve five cases with House, Taub and Thirteen. The press release doesn’t mention if Foreman or Kutner will be appearing, but I sincerely hope both characters show up. The goal of the game is to do what the team does in the show, diagnose patients who have unknown and mysterious diseases. Since it will also be a DS release, I’m guessing there’ll be some sort of touch screen controls or medical puzzles implemented. Seems like it will be a more serious mystery game.

On the other hand, Murder, She Wrote sounds like a leisurely, casual romp…

E3 2009: THQ bringing Women’s Murder Club: Games of Passion visual novel to the DS

One of the more unexpected announcements during Nintendo’s E3 2009 press conference was THQ and I-play’s forthcoming DS visual novel with hidden object and puzzle elements. Women’s Murder Club: Games of Passion features a brand new story inspired by James Patterson’s Women’s Murder Club novels. It’ll be out sometime in Fall, 2009.

Lindsay, Claire and Cindy are investigating a series of murders in Women’s Murder Club: Games of Passion. Apparently, beautiful women are being abducted and murdered. Players read along, find clues and complete casual mini-games to get closer to the culprit behind these heinous actions.

Most notable is the fact that it will be a DSi-enhanced game, making use of the DSi camera…

E3 2009: Simple Lifeforms announces Spell Souls, searches for beta testers

While E3 is a time for the major companies to make their important announcements, lesser known and independent developers and publishers also use the event to publicise their latest endeavors. Simple Lifeforms is one of those companies, and it’s chosen E3 2009 to announce it’s casual, free online game Spell Souls. Not only that, but the company is hoping to attract people interested in becoming beta testers for the game. Hopefully, by Summer 2009, Spell Souls will be available on social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace.

Spell Souls is a turn-based, magic dueling game. All players are wizards, sorcerers or shamans. The goal is to see who’s the strongest and most cunning. This is done in two ways. First is a strategic sort of game, where players can use their “friends” as warriors in battles. The second manner is in duels against other Spell Souls users, where you take turns trading blows.

If you want to register to be a potential beta tester…

E3 2009: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is lurking about

The GamesPress game listing was correct, a new PS3 and Xbox 360 Castlevania game is in the works. Konami just wanted to use E3 2009 as the platform to announce Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, being developed by Mercury Steam and Kojima Productions Studio. And it’s true, it will be out in 2010.

It wasn’t much of a secret though. Konami previously debuted Castlevania: Lords of Shadow as Lords of Shadow back in 2008. That was only a teaser though, and now Konami’s revealed the whole storyline of the game and a debut trailer.

Let’s look at that trailer now! It has Patrick Stewart narrating it, and looks more like a movie trailer than a game trailer…
