Game Critics Awards announces its Best of E3 2008 winners

The Game Critics Awards list of the best games of 2008 has just been announced and the winners for the Best of E3 2008 include Fallout 3, LittleBigPlanet, Spore, Gears of War 2 and Madden NFL 09.

Many game companies, analysts disappointed with E3 2008

Not many attendees were impressed with this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). During an interview held Thursday, (July 17, 2008) Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s senior managing director and general manager of entertainment analysis and the development division, told MSNBC that even though many fans of long running Nintendo franchise games such as Mario, Zelda or even StarFox were upset he felt that E3 was no longer a place for those types of game.

There’s been no shortage of doomsayers predicting that this year’s E3 was the end of the road for the once-mighty expo. Not so, according to a post at Gamespot. The show will go on, at least for another year…

ESA’s 2008 report: Forty percent of gamers are women

Maybe it’s time to start rewriting some of those rote gamer cliches. You know, like, “Your mom is such a gamer.” Statistically, thats not so far-fetched.

According to the ESA’s (Entertainment Software Association’s) annual report released during E3 2008, 40 percent of all gamers are women older than 18 and a quarter are older than 50. That’s up from 38 percent and 24 percent, respectively, from the 2007 release (PDF). The average age of gamers also ticked up to 35 from 33.

Every E3 there are plenty of announcements and everyone claims their is the biggest, most important and whatevertheheck else. There were fewer hardware announcements than most years with more concentration on games, developing console interfaces and content options.

Not too surprisingly, most of the staff picks for their favorite E3 2008 announcements were somehow related to Microsoft’s Xbox 360. There was, of course, a sole dissenter.

Kirby Super Star Ultra update from E3 2008

Kirby was not forgotten during E3 2008. Our favorite pink eating machine will be featured in a remake of the SNES title Kirby Super Star for the Nintendo DS called Kirby Super Star Ultra. The game will be released on September 22, 2008, and will feature everything we remember in the original plus updated graphics, fully rendered cut scenes, multiplayer and some DS-influenced mini games.
