The true state of THQ should be revealed in tomorrow’s earnings call
For the past several days, numerous reports that paint a very grim picture of the future of THQ started to come out. THQ denied it had cancelled its 2014 releases, but it did decide to stop making kids games based on licensed properties. Yesterday, THQ’s listing on The Nasdaq Global Market was threatened with a more »
Activision continues to make money in Q1 2011
Today Activision released its financial results for the first quarter of 2011 which ended on March 31, 2011. Unsurprisingly, Activision has had another successful quarter. Activision made $1.4 billion in revenue in comparison to $1.3 million one year ago. Half of Activision’s revenue for this quarter came from digital content. Money brought in from digital content increased by $100 million. Call of Duty: Black Ops has a lot to do with that success.
SouthPeak Interactive reports only $1.4 million in revenue for Q1 fiscal 2011
Yesterday, SouthPeak Interactive announced the financial results for its first quarter of fiscal 2011. The company reported a substantial decrease in revenue compared to its first quarter 2010 numbers. SouthPeak brought in $1.4 million as opposed to the $16.7 million the company made one year ago.
Activision Blizzard brings in $745 million during its third quarter

This is compared to a net revenue of $600 million in the previous year. Activision Blizzard credits its excessive revenues to StarCraft II, World of Warcraft and the Call of Duty franchise. Activision Blizzard expects to earn $1.26 billion by the end of the fourth quarter.

According to Forbes, Nintendo’s asinine product is the only home console system of this generation turning in a reasonable (if not only) profit so far, which means the company knew exactly what it was doing all along (or the employees prayed to the right money god).
Gearing the system toward the casual market, a market that up until now was ripe for the picking, Nintendo is…
EA Update: Burnout Paradise downloaded 20,000 times, 600 jobs cut, Q2 loss reported
Just three weeks after its launch for digital distribution via the Playstation Store, Burnout Paradise has been downloaded 20,000 times at $30. That’s $600,000 both EA and Sony get to see and retailers don’t. The report comes via an earnings call that was picked up by Joystiq who quoted EA CEO, John Riccitiello saying:
In the future we see slower growth in the basic packaged goods business, and higher margins, greater growth and reduced cyclicality [sic] with these new direct-to-consumer businesses.
With these numbers in such a short time frame, it’s not hard to see why…
