Dress up that gift card with GameStop’s fancy schmancy console-shaped cases

You might be considering a gift card for the gamer on your Holiday shopping list. An easy get is, of course, a GameStop gift card. While a GameStop gift card will certainly be met with a big grin and some hoopla, you can to kick it up a notch with one of GameStop’s console-shaped gift card cases.

Each is a fully formed shell of a game console representing the three biggies (a PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360) plus the PlayStation S2 and Nintendo DS (sorry PSP fans). And each is big enough to insert ye standard gift card. These are all plastic although the GameStop web site lists this as “tins” (don’t you love SEO?).

EB Games posts, then pulls, Halo: Reach screenshots

If you happened to be browsing through EB Games’ online store today, and stumbled upon the Halo: Reach product listing, you likely found a pleasant surprise in the form of multiple screenshots from the forthcoming game. They aren’t anything new, mind you. As XCast Online pointed out, they’re from Game Informer’s February 2010 issue. But, they’re new to those of us who don’t subscribe to the magazine.

Unfortunately, they’re all gone now. Apparently the upload of said images was a mistake, and they are no longer up at the EB Games site. That doesn’t mean you won’t get the opportunity to see them though! One of the images is directly above, and XCast Online happened to save all the screenshot images before they were taken down by site management.

Opinion: GameStop keeps expanding at the cost of local, intimate gaming shops

As Retail & Leisure International (RLI) points out in a recent article, GameStops are a worldwide presence. The video game giant, owned by Barnes & Noble, is now a conglomeration of many different video game stores. After all, Funcoland, EB Games, Software Etc. and Babbages were all acquired and merged together on the company’s path to domination. In fact, the giant is growing even bigger, recently acquiring the French video game chain Micromania.

But, this growth also means that smaller chains and family-owned game stores may become even more rare. I can name at least seven GameStops in my immediate area but, ,when it comes to just a local game store, I find only two…

EB Games/GameStop announces Cyber Monday 2008 sales

In case you didn’t find what you were looking for, game wise, on Black Friday, there’s still one more chance. Today (December 1, 2008) is Cyber Monday, and GameStop/EB Games is having an exclusive online sale on some selected games and accessories. So if you get some spare time while at work today, you may want to pop by GameStop or EB’s website.

Now, the deals aren’t as varied and extensive as the sales happening on Black Friday 2008, but there are still some good buys. Plus, GameStop is offering free value shipping if your order is more than $25. PSP owners may want to check elsewhere for deals, as there isn’t a single PSP game on sale. There is a PSP mega accessory pack, but that’s hardly as thrilling as a game.

GameStop/EB Game’s Cyber Monday 2008 sales are as follows…

EBGames’ (aka GameStop) Black Friday advert

EBGames/GameStop as posted it’s Black Friday 2007 shopping and bargains list. It says you can print the coupons from the site and bring them into the store beginning Friday, November 23, 2007, but I didn’t see any actual coupons. Even so, you might want to have the eight pages of ads in hand in case more »

EB Games online store hacked. Pimp your dolphin takes over

Today’s chuckle is brought to us by a random hacker who decided that November 20, 2007, would be a good day to alter the EB Games listing for the Wii version of Pimp My Ride. The box art image has been changed to show the box art from the Sega Dreamcast title Ecco the Dolphin: more »
