Hacker already gets Vita running Genesis games
You may not like Sony, but you have to feel bad for their handhelds. The PSP was an easy target for pirates, as many people turned to custom firmware that was incredibly simple to install on the systems. I mean hell, if you had a PSP with the right kind of official firmware you could more »
MAME is now available for Google Chrome
iMAME may not be available in the Apple App Store anymore, but you can’t keep good emulation software down. MAME has been ported over to Google Chrome. It can be downloaded for free in the Chrome App Store. The app comes with Robby Roto, but more legal games can be downloaded as well.
Sony explains the process behind emulating PSone games
Anyone who owns a PS3 and is remotely interested in the lineup of PSOne classics has at least one game they wish were available digitally. For me, it’s Brave Fencer Mushashi. On the surface, it seems like Sony only has to pick and choose which PSone games it wants to put on PSN. In reality, that process isn’t as simple as that. There are many steps to preparing a PSone game for digital release.
Console Classix relaunch results in more gaming options for users
If you’re without a Wii, it also means you’re without Virtual Console, one of the few means of playing classic video games you may not be able to play anymore. Fortunately, websites exist online where you can subscribe to get access to these games and play via your computer, and one of them is Console Classix. In fact, Console Classix has just experienced a site relaunch, which has not only made playing classic games with them easier, but has added to the number of systems the site supports.
There are two ways to play at Console Classix. You can create a free account which allows you to play the Atari 2600, ColecoVision and NES games available on the site. So even if you go free, you’ll have access to hundreds of games. Or, you can pay for a full account, either $5.99 a month or $59.99 a year, and you’ll be able to play all of the Atari 2600, ColecoVision, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Game Gear, Genesis, Nintendo, Sega Master System and Super Nintendo games available on the site. So far, over 3,000 games are available and you can check out the site’s library before you subscribe.
The only catch is, only Windows PCs can take advantage of Console Classix’s program…
Firefox and NES fusion
This has to be the sketchiest Firefox add-on I have ever seen. A user named FaCuZ2 has created a Firefox add-on application called FireNES which allows users to play 2,500 NES games within their Firefox browser without downloading any kind of additional programs or files. Users simply create an account on the Mozilla site, download Firefox, download the application and then begin playing illegal roms.
FireNES 1.0.1 was updated June 1, 2008, and so far 69,962 users have downloaded the application. 52,356 of those downloads happened this week. Firefox Facts investigated the application, and discovered that it accesses an online Java emulator to provide the service within Firefox. Its supposedly a fairly simple application according to reviews on the application’s page, though some reviewers have had trouble playing games in the application.
