Important Importables: Square Enix
Square Enix is like a member of the family for most gamers. The company has been around forever and is one of the biggest publishers and developers out there. It’s best known for its days as Square, when it made a name for itself creating some of the best RPGs ever, and has since branched out since acquiring Enix, Eidos and Taito to cover multiple genres. If you’ve been playing games for any substantial period of time, then odds are you’ve played at least one Square Enix game.
Which is why we’re looking back at the company in today’s Important Importables. We’re just briefly reviewing the company’s history, then offering up a few classic game suggestions in case you have some spare time and feel like reliving, or perhaps making, some memories.
Gamertell Review: Final Fantasy XIII for PS3, Xbox 360
Final Fantasy XIII, like the past few predecessors, is not a jump-in-and-play game. It requires a lot of time and either attention or a willingness to skip hours of amazing cut scenes.
There’s also quite a learning curve and a long, long while before the action becomes interesting yet never quite comes close to outweighing the story.
But is it worth the $60 price tag and leap from exclusivity to a second system?
10 Square Enix ports and remakes we wouldn’t mind seeing
The Chrono Trigger DS port, Final Fantasy Legend II DS remake and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years Wii port are Square Enix’s most recent resurrections of popular games. The company has no problem milking successful Square or Enix games in an attempt to make more money and saturate the market with its products.
Fans accept this action for the most part. It gives gamers who’ve never had the opportunity to play the original games to experience classics, and gives fans an updated and (hopefully) improved version of one of their favorite games.
Gamertell’s compiled a list of 10 games, five from Square and five from Enix, that are due for a remake or port.

If the words of Hiroshi Takai are any indication, the Xbox 360 has an excellent chance to usurp the Playstation’s crown as the premiere console of the role-playing genre.
Takai, who developed The Last Remnant, recently told interview with ComputerAndVideoGames that programming games for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console has proven “easier” than accomplishing the same task for the Playstation 3.
In the interview he made it clear that he enjoyed flexing his programming chops with the 360 in addition to becoming familiar with Unreal Engine 3. He also mentioned that…
Odin Sphere gets PAL release from an unlikely publisher
After months of clamoring from fans, Square Enix Ltd., the European arm of Square Enix, recently announced that it would be publishing Odin Sphere across PAL territories early 2008. Offering a choice between the original 60 Hz display and an updated 50 Hz display, gamers across Europe will finally be able to experience what many more »
Square-Enix blames PS3 failings on poor marketing
Yoichi Wada, President of Square-Enix, is not happy with the marketing strategies used for the PlayStation 3 console and said that Sony really needs to rethink its strategy if it plans to make the PS3 a success.
Wada, who has been a big supporter of the PlayStation brand, explained the confusion to Reuters that trouble began when Sony started promoting the PS3 as a home entertainment hub instead of a pure game console…
