European PSN users can’t access the PlayStation Store

PSN

It looks like Sony’s extended maintenance on the PlayStation Network has resulted in a very annoying problem. European users located in countries such as the United Kingdom and Spain are receiving error code “80023102″ when trying to access the PlayStation Store. Other users are reporting their download and transaction lists have been erased.

Walmart accidently lists permanent Kinect bundle discount

Last week, Walmart printed a heck of a deal in its weekly ad. The retailer listed the 4GB Xbox 360 Kinect bundle for $249, effectively putting it on the same playing field as the recently discounted 160GB PS3. It turns out Walmart didn’t mean to imply to the price drop was permanent by calling it a “rollback.” It was all a mistake.

Nintendo responds to growing 3DS technical issues

Some users are experiencing very unsettling problems with their new 3DS. It appears the first run of consoles has some problems on the hardware and software side. The two most widely reported problems are loose hinges and the 3DS black screen of death. Some hiccups are to be expected with any piece of hardware, but these issues are so prominent, Nintendo has created a support site that addresses the most common problems.

Windows Phone 7 update error may require a data wipe

In late February, Microsoft had to suspend the first Windows Phone 7 updates to Samsung phones due to installation errors. Though most attempts to install the update were successful, about one in ten devices failed to install the update. Microsoft said the primary reasons behind the errors were lack of disk space on the user’s computer, or a faulty internet connection. Windows Phone 7 updates aren’t done over-the-air, so access to an internet connected computer is required. Since then, Microsoft has resumed sending out updates to Samsung phones, but problems with other Windows Phone 7 smartphones are still occurring.

Sony warns against using PS3 (Update: It’s Fixed!)

Sony expects everything to be fixed within 24 hours but until then don’t turn on your PS3. Sony’s Sr. Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media Patrick Seybold writes,”We advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

PlayStation Network experiences global meltdown, many PS3s effected

The PlayStation Network is down! If you’re a PS3 owner who tried to play some games on your console, or pay a visit to the PlayStation Store, sometime between yesterday, February 28, 2010, and today, you already know that though! Problems started Sunday, February 28, 2010, with what appears to be either a PlayStation Network or firmware issue that is preventing users from signing into the PlayStation Network.

Not being able to connect to the PlayStation Network for online games or activities, or store access, isn’t the only issue. Other problems include being unable to play certain games offline because of corrupted data or other issues. For example, if you try to play a game that has trophy support offline, like Heavy Rain, you’ll only see an error screen and be forced to restart. Dynamic themes are out of the question too, and many PSN downloadable games aren’t functioning. Plus, your system clock may now be saying it’s 12/31/1999.

This problem is plaguing PS3 owners around the world. Only one group seems to be immune – PS3 slim owners…

How to get a replacement copy of Terminator Salvation for PC

When Terminator Salvation was released on May 19, 2009, PC owners were in for a nasty surprise. While the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions booted up just fine, retail PC copies of the game were shipped with an error that wouldn’t allow players to install the game on their machines. We entertained the idea of Skynet corrupting PC’s so we wouldn’t learn how to take down the machines but it turns out there was a defect during the disc replication process.

Once word of this error started to spread, Evolved Games issued a recall of all Terminator Salvation PC discs across North America. Copies purchased via digital distribution were (and are) not affected by this error. Evolved Games is currently making new copies of the game and it expects to arrive in stores in a few days.

Microsoft allegedly knew about Xbox 360 disc scratching issues

Oh Microsoft, first you allegedly knew about the “Red Ring of Death” issues before you launched the console and know, according to some unsealed court documents, you knew your system would cause damage to consumer’s discs thanks to defected disc drives.

Earlier this month, Kotaku reported that an Illinois man, Jason Johnson, sued Microsoft for $50,000 in damages, after his replacement console (for one that Red Ringed a year earlier) damaged three games, rendering them all unplayable.

Now, according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer, Microsoft was previously aware that shifting the console while a disc was playing would cause the disc to become damaged. In the documents, Microsoft…

EA offers Aussies refunds for missing mode in Metal of Honor

Electronic Arts has not only admitted its baffling blunder but also agreed to fully refund Australian gamers who innocently purchased the game Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 for the Wii only to realize that it didn’t have an online mode as promised in the game’s advertisements. The game was released this past Thursday (February 7, 2007) in Australia.

Many Aussie gamers bought the game believing that it had a 32-player online mode as promised in advertisements and the game’s manual. Apparently the game’s online mode is its unique selling point, so that was enough for gamers to…
