Wii Virtual Console and WiiWare update for February 16, 2009

It’s shooter heaven on the Wii this week – well sort of. Life Force is a classic NES shooter straight outta ’88, but Evasive Space (our WiiWare Entry) is a bit like a shooter without any shooting – you navigate all sorts of dangerous, obstacle-filled levels without getting your little ship/dude fried. It sounds a bit like Pacifism in Geometry Wars, and the title looks like it may be worth a few of your space bucks (that is, if you’re lacking an itchy trigger finger). As always, the titles are available on the Wii Shop channel, with a fresh batch arriving every Monday at 9 AM Pacific time. Wii points can be purchased at a rate of $1 for 100 points.

Nintendo’s Descriptions:

Yukes launches Akinai

Yukes is taking the step towards providing downloadable games for it’s fans. At the moment, it looks like we’ll just be enjoying WiiWare, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network titles, thanks to the Akinai Games division.

So far only one Akinai game has been announced, but considering that the whole new brand just launched today (January 21, 2009), I think that’s pretty encouraging. High Voltage Software’s Evasive Space, an game where, as Stellar Guardian Konki, you must navigate thorugh levels and recover Constellation Stones. The interesting thing about Evasive Space is that all that navigating is done by pointing the Wii remote at points on the screen. Sounds challenging – I guess we’ll see how it does when it’s released sometime this month…
