Nintendo Downloads for December 13, 2010

It’s beginning to look a little like Christmas on the DSi Shop. This week’s Nintendo downloads update doesn’t have any major releases appearing, but it is starting to get into the holiday spirit with Just Sing! Christmas Songs (DSiWare). There are seven new games to download today, three for WiiWare, one for Virtual Console and three for DSiWare.

The WiiWare demo support also continues with one of the newest WiiWare games being available as a free downloads. If you’re not sure if lilt line the racing game is for you, try it for free before spending $5 on it. Just be sure to download the demo soon, since it won’t be available on the Wii Shop Channel forever.

Parents relax “no video game rule” for Nintendo’s Wii

Advocates of hard line parenting strategies that preclude video games are starting to loosen the ban in the face of entertaining, family oriented titles for the Wii. A story from the online version of Halifax News tells the tale of one Canadian mother who never thought she would enjoy video games, especially with her kids.

Kelly Bearne, wife and mother of two, now enjoys Wii games on family night with her children and husband. The new gamers are responding to easy to learn titles that have caused the console to become so popular among non-traditional gamers.

The Big Brain Academy series focuses on math and cognitive skills, and it’s also been released for Nintendo’s portable system, the DS. Alzheimer patients have even reported that playing these kinds of games have helped to delay the degenerative effects of the disease.

EA promises to make a Wii trivia game

The first trivia game for the Wii will come out in time for the holidays, Electronic Arts announced today (July 11, 2007). Players of the as-yet-nameless game use gestures to answer one of 20,000 age-tailored trivia questions. Gestures range from wheel-spinning, tug-of-war and dance-offs. Microsoft announces SceneIt for Xbox 360 and new controller

One of the more interesting announcements from last night’s (July 11, 2007) press conference and the first from Jeff Bell (corporate VP of global marketing) was the news that SceneIt?, the popular DVD trivia game, will be making an appearance on Xbox360. According to Bell the game is “being designed from the ground up” to run on Microsoft’s game console and it’ll also ship with a wireless, buzzer-like handheld.
