Review: Wizard Kings board game

Wizard Kings is a fantasy wargame from Columbia Games. While scenarios vary, players generally control a fantasy race or faction, led by – you guessed it – a wizard king capable of casting battle-altering spells.

E3 2011: A short tour of Trion’s booth (with video)

Below is a quick video of the booth babes and game displays at Trion Worlds at E3 2011.

They only had two games on the floor, End of Nations and Trion.

E3 2011: En Masse plans for more action and politics in MMOs

I have to admit, I’m more than a little jaded when it comes to massively multiplayer online (MMO) games, especially when it comes to combat, which lately just seems to be cycling through my skills as their timers go off.

PaizoCon 2011 sure to be a hit

Paizocon 2011 is on track to run in Bellevue, Washington, this June 10-12. It’s come a long way from Paizocon 2008, with a mere thirty people in attendance. This year’s convention has 26 guests of honor and 81 events currently scheduled and it wouldn’t surprise me if this year’s convention gets close to selling out all 500 tickets.

Living Card Game regionals begin May 2011, begin practicing now

Fantasy Flight Games recently announced that the beginning of their 2011 Living Card Game (LCG) Regionals season is about ready to begin and are looking for retailers or tournament organizers to host their Regional Championship Tournaments.

The tournaments will be based on the three LCG games: Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game, Call of Cthulhu LCG and A Game of Thrones LCG. If you’re a player, you’ve got plenty of time to brush up on your game as the season runs from May 2 to June 13, 2011. Computer gaming is fun and all but it still can’t match playing face-to-face, actually meeting people and making friends.

Warhammer: Invasion – March of the Damned card game expansion pack

Fantasy Flight Games just released the second deluxe expansion for Invasion, March of the Damned. $30 gets you 155 more cards, expanding the other factions and introducing lizard men and vampires, as well as new card mechanics…

Labor Day Deal: $6 off Dominions 3 for a limited time

Although Dominions 3 (Windows, Linux, Mac) normally sells for near $55, Shrapnel Games has generously reduced the price to $48.95 until September 8, 2010. This still might seem high for an ancient game from 2006 but Dominions 3 is one of those games where, if you measure in hours of play, that kind of price comes out to a few pennies an hour at best..

DungeonQuest gets a world transplant

Way back in 1985 a curious dungeon crawl board game hit store shelves called DungeonQuest.

Fantasy Flight Games (FFG) just released a new version of DungeonQuest on August 25, 2010, to the delight of fans eager to take another go at the dragon’s hoard. FFG has altered the game, translating it over to their Runebound universe, but I don’t see the game changing much. The original DungeonQuest used a generic fantasy setting than can only be improved by adding the heroes and items common to Runebound, RuneWars, and Descent, the latter being the ultimate in current dungeon crawl games. Better components mean a higher price, but $60 is actually a bit low by today’s standards for big games.

E3 2010: “Mature” Lord of the Rings game to show at WB booth

Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment has announced that Lord of the Rings: War in the North will be on display at E3 this week.
